I just returned from a quick trip to Cedar Point with relatives from New Orleans. Below is a report influenced by that trip.
Our group consisted of two grandparents, three cousins (all under 9), brother-in-law, wife, and two children (both under 6). We stayed at a "deluxe" cabin at Lighthouse Point.
Lighthouse Point: This was my first time staying at Lighthouse Point and found it both clean and practical. And, with the hilariously low ceilings in the loft, all five kids enjoyed stowing away in their "playhouse." For those who thrive on criticism, I did not like the blue/green die in the area's ponds, finding that the die made the grounds appear cheap and artificial -- but, because the grounds are artificial and the landscaping didn't appear too costly, I guess this is a fair assessment.
Melt: Melt is a GREAT addition to the park. Service was slow. But, overlooking this flaw, it was great to have a clean table and chair to use while eating food. Throw in edible food, interesting and diverse beer and cocktail menu, engaging and nostalgic wall hangings, and relatively clean bathrooms at which to wash one's hands, and Cedar Point has a great model for moving the park further into the 21st century. I hope this model of pairing a local food purveyor with available space in the park is replicated. I found Melt to be a great addition to the park and potentially fills one of Cedar Point's greatest deficiencies (adequate to interesting food service options).
Luminosity: Luminosity was loud, bright, and full of energy. Everyone in our group enjoyed the show and thought it was a perfect way to finish a long, hot, and humid day. Kudos to the performers for engaging the audience with high-energy; without such buy-in from the performers, the show wouldn’t be nearly as successful. I can only imagine how difficult it is for the performers to maintain a high-energy level night after night throughout Northern Ohio’s humid summers.
Cedar Point Shores: We spent 3/4 of a day at Cedar Point Shores and the kids loved exploring the various slides and attractions. Because we had a large group with grandparents in their mid-70s we opted to rent a Cabana. The rental was a great investment and we will do it again. Various people took naps on the couch throughout the day, my brother-in-law watched Wimbledon on television, I drank a beer at my own pleasure, and we had a central location for everyone to return – all without having to leave the park. It also helped that the staff were helpful and friendly. The refresh of the water park is great and all the design elements nicely work together to create a joyful and fun environment.
Rides: We rode as many and as much as we wanted to ride and they all provided various levels of trepidation, anxiety, joy and delight. We left our stay feeling amused. Job well done Cedar Point!

MELT is a great spot. I will agree the service is slow but the food was great and all the park stuff on the walls made up for it
Also seemed that they have a lot of empty space to add more tables.

Throw in edible food
That's odd, I've never read anyone refer to Food at CP with a Space between the N and E in inedible.

I was not referring to Melt, CP in general.
That being said, I am staying on-point for 8 days (got here yesterday) then going to Cleveland for the weekend.
Having never been to a Melt and reading all the great things about it, I will not let the CP Melt be my first visit to one (I'm from Wisconsin). I will try one on way to Cleveland, CP has a history of failing food quality and service standards of chains and I'd hate to have my first impression of a Melt be ruined by poor CP food services.
