last year a few had posted a topic about good places between Toledo and Sandusky to eat breakfast (i.e. a buffet) before heading out to the park.
Traditionally, my friends and I always went to Ponderosa at like 7:30am. Nowadays, there are only "2" left in the Toledo area and I wouldn't send my DOG there...it's gone that downhill.
Someone had mentioned Tom's Family Restaurant on Woodville Rd. as well. I drove by there yesterday and they have closed permanently. Booo. :(
Does anyone have any decent suggestions for places between east Toledo and the way to the park (Rte 2, Rte 579, Rte 163, 80/90 Turnpik, etc). Places that open EARLY?
If there's still a Shoney's left in Ohio, that would be your best bet, but the last one I knew of (where I used to live, in Mansfield) that was right off of I-71, closed down a while ago. Heck, even when I travel south to the Carolinas and Georgia its is hard to find a Shoney's anymore. It may not be a buffet, but I personally like Waffle House. You should be able to find one between the park and Toledo.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
If you don't mind a place a little out of the way, you should try Diana's Deli on 250. It's a favorite of people in Sandusky, and highly recommended. It's just off Perkins Ave and only a short drive from the park. I had a very filling breakfast there for under $9.

Ryan's stakehouse on 250 right of of route 2 has a breakfast buffet on weekends I am not sure how good it is but there dinner buffet is not bad so it is worth a shot.

Witches Wheel has a 54 inch height requirement, I don't care if your child rode Dragster, Magnum or, Millenium, they are not tall enough for this one!

There is a reason why employees refer to that place as Dirty D's, and its not a good one.
The loss of Tom's Family Restaurant is also very disappointing. I have been going there since I was 6 months old and it was a family tradition to eat there. I remember a few years ago I was eating there 3-4 times a week for breakfast. Now sadly that tradition has ended.
If you are looking for other places to try, there is a good diner on Navarre Ave. (SR-2) in Oregon just past I-280. I don't remember the name of it, but it is in the plaza next to Tim Hortons, right across from the Hospital.
In Sandusky, there is a place called Whistle Stop on OH-101, which is the "secret" route to Cedar Point. It cuts about 10 minutes off of the "tourist route" down 250 from Toledo. The Whistle Stop is open 24 hours on the weekends and is located right next to the drive-thru on the right as you head toward downtown Sandusky.

yeah the place in Oregon off of 280 next to Tim Hortons is the Freeway Restaurant, or as the locals refer to it as..."Tits and Grits". Typical greasy diner food usually reserved for hangovers...ha!!
Been to Diana's in Sandusky and Cleveland area several times. Enjoy the food and especially relish in the fact that they have pierogies...mmm....my favorite. Of course, no one makes 'em like Grandma.
I'll have to check out Ryan's Steakhouse to see if they have a breakfast buffet...that might be a good option. I've always felt that their clientele is "more" than questionable, but the food is great!! Also, have drive by the Whistle Stop but never actually stopped. Might have to check it out...definitely! Thanks!!
Our old traditions are usually a huge breakfast buffet between 7 and 8am, then head off to the park...maybe get a "snack" or something small for lunch @ Red Garter or Centennial...then same for dinner. Then its caffeine and sugar to stay awake for the ride home. Such were also the nights 2 summers ago when my ex roomie and I would go to "X" on Monday and Thursday nights..."always" had to stop at Burger King for Jumbo size caffeine laced drink and a snack, or Red Bulls at the gas station before the 1 hour drive home. :)
