Breakers - Old Section...what's it like?

I just made reservations for my trip and I was wondering what eveyoe thought of the old section of Hotel Breakers...
Depends on what you're looking for. The rooms are certainly older (read: more worn) than the rest of the hotel, but I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

In addition to the money we save by staying there (less of a factor every year, it seems), they are the closest rooms to the park - practically right outside the Magnum entrance.

Additionally, my favorite hotel view has always been Magnum outside my window when I wake up.

If you prefer water, there are some rooms with beach views as well.

They are clean and very acceptable. Besides.... when we go to da'Point we never spend much time in the room....
The room I reserved has a water view...they wanted $20-25 more a night for a view of the park...I figure I'll be seeing the park plenty over the two or so days I'll be at there...I don't need to pay extra to see it as I wake up ;)
Actually, if they wanted more for a park view, you probably have a room on the water side with no view. The way that the building/hallway is shaped, there are several rooms on the parking lot side of the hallway that face directly opposite the Breakers Tower, about 30-50 feet away.

You have to go farther down the hall to at least the bend before you will have a water view. I'd double-check to make sure.

I stayed in the "Bon-Aire" section last year and the room was fine. Certainly not a "brand-new" room, but it was clean, had 2 beds, and a good shower so that is all I really needed. It was great being right next to the park entrance and we took a mid-day swim break when the humidity got to be a bit much. We are staying at Breakers again right before Memorial Day and looking forward to it. Having stayed at an EconoLodge and the Howard Johnson, I think the Breakers rooms were better.

If you do a search you should find more comments on the same topic. I had asked the same question last year on a resurected Breakers topic. Enjoy!

Are the older rooms airconditioned?

Yes they are.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

A room is a room when you are at CP. How much time does anyone really spend in the room aside from sleeping. NONE! Spend the day at the park. Go to Fridays for the limited late night menu and drink very late. Then crash and get just enough sleep for the next day.

Ahh.....The first sight of the day.....Magnum

Unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your room, the Bon-Aire section is great for anyone looking to stay on the penninsula without spending a whole lot.

If you ever get a chance to see the Presidential Suite (or the Horizon Suites for that matter) in the Tower then you will agree that a room is not necessarily a room when it comes to Cedar Point.
The Horizon suites are very nice! Everything in the hotel is air conditioned except for the lobby. Stop by and say hi to me at the desk when you check in! ;)

Back to the Breakers this summer! :)

I look at it the same way Travis. When you're at the point, you're mostly only in your room at night and in the morning and not much longer than that. Unless you decide to rest there for some reason. The room is going to be dark so you won't see much of it anyways. Even though Breaker's is a nice place to stay, I would still choose to stay at the Day's Inn or other locations for a little less and still have a nice room to stay in. I have no problem driving 5 minutes from the point to my hotel.

and remember, if you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter

I agree...I am not there (at the hotel that is) for the views...I am there to put my weary head on a pillow. And after staying at the Howard Johnson at the base of the causeway for last year's CM, ANYTHING has to be an improvement When I was there, muffleheads & mayflies were everywhere due to the improper weatherstripping around the door. ack!

That same HoJo for my trip in August wants $185 plus tax for both nights whereas for the same two nights, Breakers is charging me $220 (both totals are without tax). When you consider if I stayed offsite I'd end up paying an additional $16 for parking...I am only paying an additional $19 for two days to stay at Breakers.

I just wanted to be sure that the rooms are decent (I figured they had to be seeing CP's reputation)...and it sounds like they are...Plus when you add in the convenience of being right there at the Magnum entrance AND getting in the park 1/2 hour early...that is a double bonus!

A CP trip is much nicer when you stay at the resort. When you don't have to leave the penninsula, it is a great escape from the everyday world. It's not just about racing to go from ride to ride, you can have a nice walk along the beach, go swimming, come and go to your room for breaks, drink a bunch of adult beverages and not have to worry about driving, and a hundred other things that turn a trip into a vacation. There is a lot to be said about parking your car and just enjoying yourself for the duration. And, waking up in the morning with a great view of the lake or park, and knowing that all the fun is just a short walk away.

I'm looking forward to my first stay at Breakers in May. I grew up about 2.5 hours from CP and my parents took us several times growing up, but we always drove home afterward. It was no problem then, as a kid I slept all the way home. Don't know how my parents did it though. Back then I remember seeing the folks coming out of Breakers and wondered why we never stayed there, later learning money was probably a big factor.

I have since moved to Dallas, TX, but have made several trips back home which usually included a trip to CP also. Last trip I stayed at Breakers Express, but this year I bit the bullet and booked at the Breakers. I think my reservation is for the Towers section or for the East section. Don't really care, I just can't wait for May to get here.

I am staying at the Breakers(older section) this summer and I am wondering. What is the two room 3 double beds suite like? What is the layout? What's the view? Anything you can tell me about it would be appreciated!

I just booked our room for coastermania at hotel breakers(old section). In my oppinun, the older section is better. There is nothing wrong with the new section, its just that there is something cool about staying in such a histaric place.
Enjoy your stay is the old section. It may not be around for too many more years.
Sorry for bringing this old topic back up again but I was just wondering how bad the smoking rooms are if you're a non smoker. I'm planning a trip for August 25-27 right now and I was wondering if the smell is bearable or if it has sunk in very badly. All that's left at Breakers is smoking rooms and I want to know if it's worth paying the extra cash to stay at Breakers vs. Breakers Express since I'd have to be putting up with the smell of smoke. Thanks for your help.

P.S- I can't really find any information on how the bugs are at that time of year, I have read the articles on this site and checked previous topics but I just can't find anything.
