Bonus Weekends in November?

Not to question CPs motives, integrity or anything else they do in regards to pleasing the multitudes, but when it's all said and done the name of the game is MONEY.

If Kinzel and his buddies think they can make a buck by opening the gates at 3a.m. on a freezing cold Wednesday night in late January, then that's exactly what they're going to do. We can pis and moan all we want about enough being enough, but when it comes right down to it we don't mean diddley poo (Jim Mora) in the big picture.

Speaking as an employee whom is a local and HAS to work the full season let me say soemthing here about extending the season: NO FREAKING WAY the regular season is long enough and the closing weekend(s) are too cold IMO anyway to be riding coaster that go upwards of 70, 80, 90 + MPH. I am sorry but I would not ride a coaster that goes 93 MPH when it is 50 out I don't care how much I loved the ride itself it is a matter of health and let's not forget the kids who go with their parents (now I have nothing against parents taking thier children to an amuesment park on fal days I think it is great) however there are limits especially with temperture. 50 ok just nothing too extreme but under that and you would have to be out of your mind. And thinking back on the 45-50 degree days I have had to work it is too much on the employees themselves even when we are layred because of how long we have to stay and work 13-14 + on Saturdays and 8-9+ on Sundays and thats not including those of us who have to drive 3+ hours to go to school the next day.

When Cedar Point talks about becoming a year-round destination, I seriously doubt they mean running roller coasters in January. They're going to be more creative than that.

I agree with you kevin. I remember wearing shorts most of february the past few years. maybe they are building the new one early so they can open in march or february or april 1 ("this is not a joke" advertising).

Give me a break dude! Nobody is holding a gun to your head telling you that you have to work at Cedar Point. Matter of fact, from the sounds of all that wining, your in the wrong line of work period. I can't imagine the torture and pure hell you must be going through having to deal with those blistering cold 50 degree days. Those grueling painful 14 hour shifts. And that tremendous never ending 5 and half month work season. Pray you don't ever have to work all year round guy, you might not make it.

Hey Stew,

It is much more than a 5 1/2 month work schedule. Park opens in May and closes late October. From the day of close it is a good month trying to get the park "winterized", maybe longer depending on what department you are in.

That takes you to December. One benefit of the company is you get almost two full weeks off during the Christmas/New Year's holiday. You also have to cram your vacation in sometime between November and March since you are not allowed to take any vacation when the park is open.

In January you begin the heavy recruiting, which calls for being on the road, away from home, for several weeks. While at work, it isn't like you are watching the snowfall because you have to be on the phone with potential employees, writing manuals, etc. In early April it is time to start getting the park open again.

There used to be an "off-season", years ago, but the growth of the Point and the extension of the schedule has changed all of that.

I follow you on that part of it for sure. But the college kids which are what? Ride ops...Food service workers... Gift shop laborers if you will. They don't have to deal with all that stuff you mentioned do they? I was under the impession they were pretty much just in and out. Hence the 5 and a half months.

the weather around sandusky until mid june is not real nice...having done a stint at cp beginning in mid may i went through the rain, thunderstorms and cold...i went on may 11 this year only to be pelted with snow flurries and hail!!!!! so much for sandusky wx..
May's in Indiana and Ohio (probably some other states as well) are very sporadic. There is really no way to predict how they weather will be a month in advance. It can be as warm as June and July, or as cold and rainy as March and April. This year, it was pretty crappy, and got better right around Memorial Day.
