Bonus Weekends in November?

After being there on the final Saturday, I'm convinced that if CP opened their doors on weekends leading up until Thanksgiving, the people would come.

Hopefully they'll read this. After all, they never stayed open right up to Halloween until I gave them the idea with a thread I started on here. Now don't everyone thank me at once ;)

I was super before Superstew was cool!

I don't know. I think they close at a good time and should continue to do this. Now, I am not saying that I wouldn't like them open longer, It would be great, but HalloWeekends is just what it is, that last time to go to the park and to celebrate halloween.

Besides, it would get way to cold for a lot of people.

It isn't a matter of "people will come"...It is a matter of WEATHER and STAFFING...CP will someday maybe sooner than later have something for what we now consider the off-season.

Perhaps we'll see our first November at Cedar Point next year, with Halloween on a Friday.

From reading different quotes from CP management, I know there is a desire for year-round income. I wouldn't be surprised to see something in the future in that regard.

A year-round Cedar Point, well this would most deffinitly be interesting. Hopefully you aren't hinting they are going to move the park to Texas because that would just suck.

I had the impression they were thinking of doing shows and stuff for Christmas. Especially now that they have an ice rink!!! I'm unaware of any ice rink in Sandusky. (I'm probably wrong!). Anyway don't they keep the Radisson open year round, along with Fridays!

Remember folks that Cedar Point primarily staffed by college students. Also, it is in Sandusky, Ohio, not some large city like other parks are in. If the staffing was different and location was different, it might be able to be done. Not likely to ever happen.

Never say never. Great Bear Lodge seems to do very well during the winter, as they are often booked to full capacity.

An article in the Sandusky Register quoted John Hildebrandt as saying, "There is an interest from the marketplace and from within Cedar Point to extend the season. We will have to be creative and efficient, but I think we'll be successful in finding ways."

Original thread discussing the article can be found here.

I would love to see some off season events at the Point. I always thought a "Space Spiral Drop" on New Years would be pretty cool. I also would think they could draw some people by offering off season tours for $10-15 once or twice a winter. It probably wouldn't be much, but I think it's safe to say that just about everyone here would go.

"If you're standing in an uncomfortable position, that means you are in the right position because you are riding Mantis!" - Mantis ride op doing spiels on closing day.

If they extend the season longer and not year round, they will probably do so in April rather than November. The weather usually is cooperative by early to mid April. However, college students don't get out of school for the summer until the beggining of May, so it's hard to say what they are looking into doing.

Haha, memories of that thread a while ago where someone wondered if it was realistic to put a dome around CP for year-round income... ;)

On behalf of the full time employees who appreciate getting their lives back in November...shut up! The season is long enough.

OMG don't stay open through November cause I might just be tempted to work bonus weekends again!! :) Anyone from Ohio knows how crappy our weather gets from end of October till like April. The only thing worse than riding the rides in that type weather is RUNNING the rides in that type weather. Closing day weather was typical ucky Fall weather (wet, damp, cloudy and cold) and crowd was way down. CP won't benefit financially if no one comes to the park!

CP would do well with their own version of the Great Bear Lodge. In addition, an interesting year round attraction can be found at:

http://www.unlimited-snow.nl/pages_english/design/arctic.htm

It's a winter themed indoor amusement area which even has real snow. It seems like it would be fun. A company called Unlimited Snow designed the attraction, you can look at their website here:

And that's the kind of attraction that Cedar Point would look at in their quest for year-round income. I doubt you'll see traditional amusement park operations during the winter.

I think it can work. It's worked for Great Bear enough where another company is planning an even larger indoor water park/resort across from the Radisson.

Although the "ice rink" is there, it's not nearly large enough to support GP skating, IMO.

But as mentioned above, there are other options. I recall a few years ago CP attempted a couple of xmas weekends with the park/coasters all done up in lights, Santa, sleigh rides, etc. I got the impression the attempts didn't go over very well, which disappointed me.

How many people who don't live in the Sandusky area are going to drive to Cedar Point in December for hot chocolate and a ride on the carousel.

The Point can be a bitterly cold and brutal place that time of year. It was a nice idea but the place really is not welcoming in the winter.

I love CP but NO freaking way am I going to drive 2.75 hours one way for hot chocolate and a ride on the carousel.
So good po!nt as always Chief Wahoo.
Not to mention I know who was Santa the last time they attempted this and have NO desire to sit in his lap!!! ;)

Was Santa Mr. Skyward by any chance?
