While I was at the park today (8/23), going up Mean Streak, I noticed construction vehicles in motion to the right of the bone yard. There appears to be some trees down and a lot of flatened out dirt.
My best guess is there making the bone yard bigger or using dirt to fill in the erosion around the penninsula.

I noticed that to while riding MS. I have no clue what they are doing though. Hmm, possibly getting ready to move dirt for the much rummored boardwalk project. But why would they take it from there. They might be expanding. Jeff do you have any clue since you are in contact with the park?

They may be getting rid of the Mean Streak lagoon. One of the original waterways from the lagoons went right through there. It would go under Mean Streak (This is how they are able to grow the willows by the Streak) and Frontier Town and resurface right behind Mean Streak. It was/is a mosquitoes to Haven.

You guys are very observant. The gates (to the boneyard) have been opened in the past month. There will be something going on there this winter. Nothing too big, but it is a good deal more than landscaping.
hrm, perhaps it is no longer? I will stick w/ Cp_bound's( I think it was him) comment w/ this topic, and I quote "People who aren't in the know make rumors, and people who are in the know keep thier mouths shut!"

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?"
It will be bigger and badder yet, in reality, a return to the glory days.
I drive along that area every day to and from work and have not seen any significant construction. There have been some trucks taking some of the Halloweekends props out for repainting and clean-up, but that is all.
I think they are going to do a major upgrade to Camper Village. There is a TON of room in that back part of the penninsula.

They're definitely doing something in the boneyard. Dan sounds like he's on the right track :)

It wouldn't surprise me if they expanded Camper Village, since they reduced it in size over the years. Personally, I always thought they should build some new dorms back there. The dorms behind Wildcat and the dorms between Corkscrew and Breakers look just awful. I would hate to stay there for the whole summer.
Actuall, it's Jeff's expression "Those who know don't talk, and those who talk don't know", but I just stated it in another thread to make a point.
Why do you think they would expand camper village? Remember before Magnum, Soak City, and Sand castle suites, camper village use to cover most of that area at one time!! Before to long, i can see them tearing camper village out all together!! CP doesn't make that much of money off it any way.
OK--my bad. This week's issue of the Cedar Point Employee-Management Relations Committee directly states that "Camper Village will be getting a major refurbishment for the 2001 operating season."
Chris I, how is it that you know Cedar Point doesn't make much money off of Camper Village. The fact is, it is very difficult to get reservations in the campground due to its small size. During peak season, it seems that you have to make reservations way it advance to get in. At least that has been the experience of my family who stays there once each year.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
Yep, Camper Village is indeed being expanded with a full-service section. I think that kind of puts to rest any theory that it's going away. The idea with capital improvement is that it's there to stay for a bit!

Camper Village makes money. If it didn't, it wouldn't be there. A large percentage of the campers are season pass holders and return to the campground multiple times in one season.
Opearating costs are virtually nothing. Minor expenditures on staff, utilities (which is also minimal) and that is it. The campground is a worry-free way of making a good chunk of change every year.
Look for full hookups (sewer), and possibly even cable t.v. and a pool.
Camper Village makes over $1,000,000 a season, Cedar Point wants to expand this to make more money and have a higher attendance of people by building more places for "peeps" to saty on point.
do you think they will finaly have tent camping now?i hope so becouse we always go to bayshore estates camp ground.its an ok camp ground but it would be nice if there was a place on the point that we could camp on.
There's no tent camping because that area is on a flood plain. If it rained, you would not be happy, and neither would be when you come complaining that you almost drowned overnight.

Besides, I believe the expansion will be a little more upscale than Camper Village. I'm not sure tent camping would fit with that plan.
