This wasn't anything official, but I've heard someone say that they think the new coaster for cedar point will be that B&M 4D coaster that was rumored to exist a couple of years ago.
What do you guys think of this?
Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over
Wasn't my idea

I had the same thought earlier today but I realized it sounded ridiculous. I guess it could could work but i doubt they would do it.
It sounds pretty unlikely, but it would be interesting to see how B&M might pull that off if they did (at any given park, not just CP).
I haven't heard of B&M's 4D design, but I don't see why they couldn't combine it into the diving coaster element. My thought of a 4D coaster always involved optical sensors underneath the train, and as they passed over optics along the track, they would signal a computerized motor to spin each train a certain degree (based on the code received from the optics along the track). Seems like it would be way more efficient than S&S's mechanical nightmare.
Wait, you think digital sensors are better than mechanical control?
Have you ever seen Vekoma vs B&M flyers? They went from digital to mechanical to eliminate problems.
Highly prefer the Vekoma ones...

Yes, the less moving parts you have, ie the extra set of rails and extra set of wheels, the less problems you're going to have. And you pointed out a bad example as both the Flying Dutchman and B&M flyers use a mechanical system.
That mechanical system is exactly the same as the extra rails on the Arrow/S&S 4D coasters. Only it is only active in the station. That is the simplest, most failsafe way to do controlled spin on a coaster.
What was wrong with my example? Vekoma used digital sensors, those failed. B&M used mechanical lifts, those haven't failed. Vekoma switched to mechanical from digital... You are implying digital is better.

At that point, you might as well just program the ride vehicle itself instead of using all those sensors or optics along the track.
New for 2018... RMC Iron Horse!!!

Can you talk about who you heard it from or where you heard it?
It was some comment on youtube.

Wow! That's, like, the most trustworthy source ever!
*posts random nonsense on YouTube comment sections*
Did you read the original post? I said that this wasn't a rumor. It was just some guy who thought up something. I wanted to know what all of you thought about it.

No, it's true. My aunt's husband's second cousin on his mother's side hairdresser's nanny's butcher's niece's pizza delivery guy read the exact same thing on YouTube somewhere sometime.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Don't tell anyone, but... That was all me.
Shhh!! ;)

That may have been me. I thought of the idea when I was thinking of other types of B&Ms that use big track. I thought about the rumored 4D coaster they were making from 2012, and thought this could be it. I'm almost positive they won't put a dive coaster in after Rougarou. Not to mention the height and plot of land would be perfect for one. Also, the cost wouldn't be too high, as it is a prototype.
You're assuming that the cost of a prototype would be less instead of higher than that of a developed model..
