Blackout

It was crazy I was third in charge at Chaos when the blackout happened. DAY FROM HELL. People were stuck on Chaos for 45 minutes, I had to manually release Ocean Motion, and the playground ran the best numbers in the park that h our, it was pure CHAOS.

Oh, the blackout was not fun!! :( I was stuck inside of Hotel Breakers handing out food and water to the guests that were directed there! :(

Plus, after the blackout, I had to deal with SEVERAL very angry guests who threatened lawsuits because we would not give them back their money for cancelling their reservations! Plain ans simple, it was NOT fun!

Wow.. I hope that doesn't happen again, I wouldn't be able to handle all those angry guests :(

Haha don't EVEN get the guest services crew started on this. . .!!!!

Oh, what a day. . .I remember it clearly. . .I was by myself in the office for the rest of the evening. . .suddenly, no phone, only a radio to communicate. . .AH!

Of course, everyone pulled together like none other, and the day went surprisingly well. . .but, yes, it's DEFINITELY something I'd enjoy not revisiting.

The blackout was the 3rd and final time I'd have to push the wheel last season... (two times on the 4th of July, along w/ a fire )

It was excitement to say the least...

I felt extremely bad for the people who were on dragster when the power went out. Although everyone was in a position where they could have easily been unloaded with a battery pack, we had to wait for supervision to get there before we could do anything. And since supervision was busy at other rides where people were stuck in extreme locations, Dragster was about last on their list of importance. So these poor people had to sit stapled in that train in the hot sun. We ended up getting cups and passing out water cause there was nothing we could do and people were over-heating.

I was *OFF* that day. < /disappointment > I really really really would have liked to be working on Sky Ride that day, but WT would still have been KINDA exciting... if only it was cycling when it went out... that would have been fun... manually lifting the breaks one at a time, pulling the train back into the station, mmm. fun times all around (*being serious*... it would have been exciting :-D )

You think Dragster was bad? Think about Space Spiral... no breeze, enclosed cabin w/no fans, FULL cabin (28 people) w/babies, no way to get water to the passengers, red phone in and out of contact w/cabin, and one employee trying to calm down all those people and having NO idea what is actually going on... (glad it wasn't me) Space Spiral was the LAST ride to be unloaded, a full hour after the power went out. Most people are running out of that oven after only 3 minutes... and that's WITH the fans running. When we saw that Spehn, Bob, Oz, and all of the other sups were over there to deal w/guest complaints after they got off - the rest of the crew stayed FAR away.

Not to mention we were instructed to call Space Spiral down most of the rest of the week for "guest convenience."

awe I missed everything. :-\ Darn 'once in a lifetime' things and I missed the whole thing!

I'm assuming they had to crane people out? Or was it low enough to perhaps hop down? Ladders, perhaps?

I THINK they were able to manually crank it down... can't remember, unfortunately it wasn't the only time we had a *rescue*. (Earlier in the season we did have a crane rescue one employee and one guest... but they never could have done that with roughly 30 people.) Either way... once the cabin was finally down the doors weren't lined up with the platform so we pushed over the dockbox so they could jump onto that instead of the concrete but they still had about a 4 foot drop. There were obviously plenty of people helping down and out.... a ladder would have been funny tho.. :)

I was in the cabin when the electric went out in 02' during one of the nights. There was about 10 people. It was awsome..hehe To see all the lights in the park go off..Then off course when this happened I had the person at Schaw. and Giant Wheel controls calling me in the cabin making sure we were all okay and to double check on some procedures. I loved it!..

I ate melting ice cream and the power came back on as I was walking out of the merch office at 7:59 so I was the first person to be able to punch out that day.

Exactly the information I waited 11 years to hear.
