Hey has anybody heard about the town hall meeting on april 25th to try to save the big dipper? It starts at noon ath the vfw hall on aurora road right across the street from the geauga lake ball room! It should be a lot of fun and possibly save the 12th oldest roller coaster in the world! take a look at geaugalaketoday.com and see what's going on. I know there are a bunch of people on here that loved the big dipper and went to geauga lake on a regular basis. It would be great if a bunch of yo ucame out to support this cause. Thanks a lot everyone.
I'm hoping to get over there myself, if my schedule permits.
Now I'll just gird my loins for the wave of derision that is coming . . .

Save The Big Dipper!
If they save the Big Dipper would it be relocated or just stand where it's at now as a SBNO status?
I hope for the best for the Dipper! I know that it sounds like it will be a fun day on the 25th! It will be nice to share the memories of a great park! I also hope that it will be a positive experience to put a rest to all the negative that has happened since the closing if the park! I know for me I love my Ohio parks and I wish that we still had the three, but now I am hoping that at least the Dipper will have a brighter future than the Villian and the Double Loop did!

I would of rather of had the Dominator than the Big Dipper come to CP, but now I would rather have something new made of wood from Intamin or The Gravity group.
I want to see It operating again, I wish it would go to a park like Knoebels, but they have invested a lot of money into the flying turns, and I guess they are getting some sort of steel coaster this year according to RCDB.

Save The Big Dipper!
From what I understand, The two of the speakers they are having are very well respected in the amusement park industry. i can't wait.
Big Dipper is a good ride, but not Cedar Point worthy.
It is old, bumpy, and probably would not survive a big move. Its cool that it is so old but the coaster is pretty lame in my opinion.
Stick it in WWK or another CF park, just keep it away from CP. I would prefer new coasters instead.
They could save the track and just scrap the structure if they wanted to move it. That is if they decided to relocate the Big Dipper. Maybe another park could turn it into a GCI. Just a thought.
Again I will just reiterate that CP already has a mid-size out and back, and it also is a better ride then the Big Dipper.
I hope it goes somewhere, but it doesnt make sense going to CP.
I have had some of the most amazing rides on Big Dipper, I have also had some really crappy ones. The thing is, CP could not keep it as is. They would need to make the same lame changes they made to Blue Streak with the lap bars, controls, etc.
Be glad you got to ride it, say goodbye, and tell your kids about it. By then, it will be the best coaster ever, and its legend can be bigger than it ever was.
Touchdown, I disagree, The freedom you have of a single position lapbar is amazing, I have had better airtime on Dipper. I personaly think the Dipper was better and it is a true classic.

Save The Big Dipper!
My whole take on this is simple!
Cedar Fair should just respect the fans of the ride and the ride itself by saving it for them selves. I understand that Geauga lake is gone and there is no bringing it back I get that. But the big dipper is still standing. Why not just move the ride over to WWK. It will be the only dry ride in the park. Big Dipper is saved and everyone is happy! Thats just my opinion

^ But does that really make sense from a business perspective? My guess would be no, assuming that if it was, CF would have already made the move.
My thoughts are that there are two possibilities for the ride. The first one being that it somehow reopens and continues to operate exactly where it is now, and the other one being the ride gets scrapped. Unless there is some coaster preservationist out there with deep pockets, I don't foresee anyone spending the money, time and energy needed to move the thing.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I don't know whta the best outcome will be for the future of the Dipper or of the land where Geauga Lake stood, but it would be nice to see the Dipper stay and make the land into something that many can enjoy like a recreation area instead of another gated community or more stores in which we really do not need considering many of us are facing losing our jobs and everthing we have! I hope this event will bring peace to many that have so many different feeling about why CF decided to close up shop at Geauga Lake!

I would also say I thought Dipper was a better coaster than the Blue Streak. I like them both (I guess b/c I like old, rickety, bumpy) but if I had to choose my favorite it would be the Dipper.

Chief, you have to stop reading my mind.
Even though they are both wooden out-and-backs, there is a huge difference -- about forty year's worth -- between the two in terms of experience. It's like the difference between riding in a 60's muscle car and something far older but still with a wallop -- like driving a 1922 Stutz Bearcat, for example.
