Best time of year to buy Season/Platinum Pass?

3snoH un=l's avatar

Greetings-

We're considering season or platinum passes for next year and see they are for sale now. I'm wondering if the price goes up if we wait a while to purchase, like say, before Christmas or even after or does it stay the same? I figured some of you folk would be familiar as to the timing of purchasing a pass so I'd appreciate the advice if I need to jump on it soon.

Thanks very much!

Guessing you already don't have one. Some parks will give you the rest of this season for free with next years pass. If that's true for Cedar Point I'd get one now and take a trip for Halloweekends. The price should be cheapest from now before December.

Also I'd go with the Platinum pass. Free parking and other goodies such as extra ride time, early entry yadda. I'm pretty sure my Platinum Pass from Knott's was $165. I've been to their parks less this year than any summer in memory and it's already been paid for many times over.

The price goes up after Oct 31st. You should sign up for the newsletter.

Thanks to you both. I'll be sure to get the passes well before the end of next month (and hopefully get in a trip this fall) and sign up for the newsletter as well. It says on the Platinum that there are food discounts, do you know what kind of discounts or percentage off is typical?

Was almost thinking of getting one platinum (for parking) and the rest regular season but we might partake of Soak City and a trip to Kings Island, too. Not sure we'll make it for early extra hours like the rest of you and most of our trips would be on weekends.

This would be the first time getting any kind of passes. The kids are tall enough now so now it'll be worth it. Cedar Point has evolved to such a power park now over the decades versus a family park.

Also, would anyone know if the platinum pass offers any kind of discount for the docking at the marina? It didn't look like it but thought I'd ask if anyone might know and answer.

Thanks again.

Is the buy a pass, get a free ticket offer still going on? Does this offer work if you renew your current pass instead of buying a whole new one?

I don't believe the offer is for renewals. Call to check, though, just to be sure.

Promoter of fog.

I got a regular pass this year and am planning on getting a platinum pass for 2013. If I buy the 2013 platinum pass now would I receive free parking and other perks (of the platinum pass) for the remainder of this season?

Here is a list of the 2012 Platnium Pass Perks.2013 perks should be similar.

The official websites states that you receive one free visit this fall if you buy a 2013 season pass. It is not a ticket to use for someone else. If your name is on the 2013 pass, then you and only you get the free visit this fall. If you are already a 2012 season passholder, this promotion does not apply to you as you already have unlimited access to Cedar Point and HalloWeekends for 2012.

No, since you are not a 2012 Platinum Passholder, you would still not receive any of the current benefits. The website says that you will receive free parking in 2013 only.

Jacob, are you making assumptions about the free ticket offer when buying a 2013 season pass, or is this first hand experience?

In previous years, names were not tied to season pass vouchers purchased, nor were they assigned to the free ticket.

Can anyone who purchased a new 2013 season pass in person at the season pass center confirm if names are now tied to the vouchers and free tickets?

Purchased one at the season pass center, and names are not on either.

Excellent, firefox. That should answer everyone's questions. :)

Here is another question not sure if anyone knows but on the back of one of my friends tickets it says to upgrade and save to a season pass. Well can she do that with a 2013 pass?

I don't think so. But, if you buy a 2013 pass, you will get a ticket to use for one admission this year.

Thanks, Jacob, for the 2012 list of perks. I didn't realize early entry was for any day, versus specific ride nights so that's something to consider as well.

Cedar Point clarified this on Twitter, so I thought it would be a good idea to mention it here.

Q: Wondering if I get the 2013 season pass do I personally have to use the 2012 any day admission or if I can let a friend use it?

A: Yes, the admission has to be used by the passholder, think of it as using your 2013 pass one time in 2012.

Hi, I'm new here. I emailed CP asking if I could let my sister use my voucher if I wasn't able to get back to the park this year, and this is the response I received... Thought i would share since they seem to be giving out different information.

"To use the free admission, you must present your 2013 season pass voucher at the gate to be scanned for admission.    Anyone can present the voucher, however, you must retain the voucher so you can redeem it for your Photo ID card next season."

Does anyone know if after October there will be another payment plan option for next year's season passes? It's not within my budget right now to purchase even a payment plan right now.

As far as I know, the payment plan will continue to be an option.
