Best Campsite

I was just wondering what you guys think is the best place to camp around CP. I have stayed at Crystal Rock in the past however am looking for something closer. The only two places I can find on the net is Camp sandusky and BayShore. which is better/nicer looking for four 20 year olds? Also anyone know of cheap hotels or campgrounds around KI?

[url][url]We always stay at East Harbor State Park. I highly recommend it. We tent camp when we dont hotel it...and their primitive campground is nice with a lot of "secluded" spots if you look. Scenic 15 minute trip from CP.

I think 4 20 year olds would do just fine there.

KI has their very own campground. It had closed with the GWL construction, but I think they were going to open that back up.

Go to http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/

Youll find info for East Harbor, and check out near Kings Mills. There are a couple nice state parks nearby.

For what it's worth, if you have tents, bayshore isn't bad and it's really cheap. I paid around $130 to stay 8 days last summer in a row. It worked just fine for me.

This thread probably deserves to be in trip planning...

But I would say the best campsite is the one right by da beach!

No I would ask for one of them though :)

Bholcomb, that is a friggin great idea though 8 days for $130. I mean I pay that for one day in Breakers.

Can you bring tents / do they have a pool?

Bayshore is nice the bathrooms are cleaned nightly with power washers, there is a pool do not know if it is heated never been in, and it is very reasonable price wise. The only downfall is there is a train that goes by nightly. extremely close to cp though !! I stay there often & never have problems.

By Kings Island, East Fork and Hueston Woods are pretty nice (not that close though). The tent/nonelectric sites at Hueston Woods are pretty big and you have some privacy, however they dont have flush toilets near them, but that may have changed as they have made improvments the past few years.

For camping near CP, Bayshore or East Harbor. I prefer East Harbor because you dont have the trains and you are very close to the boat docks for the islands.

Sandusky, OH:

Bayshore Campground is the best for the money. We stay there MANY times a year.

Mason, OH:

Cedarbrook Campground is about 15 minutes from King's Island and a really nice park.

My brother and I stayed at Bayshore last summer for two nights
for Coaster Mania. It's a pretty good deal, plus an additional
discount if you're a AAA Member. The pool is not heated, but it
does the job for those hot and humid days. However, the only downfall
is the train that was already mentioned above. I hardly got any sleep
the first night because of it, but probably wouldn't even without the
train. - Too excited about getting up early the next day for CP! The funny
thing was the second night I slept great, being wiped out from riding in
the park for almost 20 hours! :)

Camper Village is great. Rates are reasable compared to the hotels. You get early admision into the park. Restrooms are clean, but can get very busy in the mornning.

Camper Village doesn't allow Tents. Try the cabins, they are great (little pricey so invite a few more people) or just go to Breakers Express. During "non-peak" season, also depending on occupancy, the rates actually are about the same as Camper Village

The pool at Bayshore is not heated as far as I know, however, if I ever need to cool off I just go to Soak City.

The train is annoying, but I've pretty much gotten used to it, I think. It's still an unbeatable deal.

I lived next to rail road tracks for like 4 months so I know how it is. I got to the point where I slept through it.

In all seriousness sometimes I wish I could just stop the car, lay down the seat, and sleep. But you can't park on public property or you can get towed, etc. So renting a campsite for a night sounds like the way to go (only $20 a night..... come on)

Thanks everyone for your ideas and help. I think the campground at KI has closed for good as there is no mention of it anywhere and when I looked on KIExtreme it says it closed in 2006.

Yes, that is correct, the campground at King's Island is now a HUGE indoor water park. Namely, Great Wolf Lodge.
