The general consensus around here seems to suggest that there is a good amount of theft when living in the employee housing.
So I was just curious about whether it would be wise to bring my laptop or not? In your guy's/girl's experience how much did theft did you witness? And I can imagine laptop theft would be pretty lucrative for thieves.
I'm a first year, so I don't know from experience, but I was told it would be alright to bring a laptop as long as you were safe about where you store it. I mean, if you leave it lying around... then yeah, you're just asking for it to be taken. If you lock it up in your locker (given you stay in commons like I am) when your not using it you should be fine. Also, invest in a lock cord for you laptop. If you've ever been to Best Buy and seen their computers, you've probably noticed they're tethered down to the table or floor. Every computer has a little hole on the side for this lock. They're simple to use and keep people honest. You just tie the chord around your bedpost then lock it into your computer. In the case that anyone tries to steal it they wont get away quickly, and if they try to rip it out... it will tear the side of your computer off, so it wont be getting use out of it. They're only 10 dollars or so on computer sites or ebay.

I brought my laptop last year. Didn't have a problem because I had decent roommates and I always kept it out of sight. Just make sure you lock your locker, bedroom door, whatever you have to do. If you don't feel comfortable leaving it in your room, lock it in your car(if you have one) when you are at work.
