be kind to newbies

While I can appreciate one's excitement about a trip to CP, please let's keep the ..."What's the crowd level like or what's the weather going to be like posts..off the board...

You guys do realize that there are some people who come here with the best interests in mind and want to share in the fun of Cedar Point. They want to have a great vacation and ask you guys for tips to make it the most pleasurable experience possible. There will always be questions from newbies. Thats how all of you strated out. But what do you do? You put them down just like the above quote. Is this annoying to you? Sharing information about the park you love.

If it bothers you that much then ask the webmaster to create a FAQ for newbies. Then this problem will go away. But until this happens dont turn away members because they want information.

I might be inclined to agree with you, but I don't.

Amusement parks are just like any other outdoor activity anywhere. If the weather is nice, there's a holiday and the kids are out of school, it will be crowded. Really, why do people try to make it rocket science? There are no mysterious trends. The only day that doesn't follow this logic is closing day.

Furthermore, these kinds of request are silly because, last I checked, none of us could see into the future.

Turn away a "member" NEVER..But let's keep the topics/threads to meaningful discussions...Crowd levels and what is the weather going to be like are unneeded noise. That is what you will find with a MODERATED forum.

A FAQ might not be a bad idea - an idea that's certainly been discussed before. However, crowd related questions could easily be handled by some type of prediction calendar ;)

Im confused by this statement. How can the regulars of CP tell you about the crowd level/weather for a date 3 months away. I thought the park would have moderate crowds last Sunday based upon my visit last year, but since it was very nice out, it turn out to be insanely packed....Noone is trying to be rude, but most people will give you advice based upon *last years experiences*...And that advice is kinda pointless....

Weather and crowd size are two questions that are definately a waste of time to be asking. It is fully understandable that these posts are unnecessary. However, people on the boards are rarely rude like this when the question is actually answerable. For example, What are LIM's? or What is Freeway? Questions like these have come up recently and have been cordially answered.

You had to say it, didn't you Walt. ;) Seriously though, while we've talked about a FAQ a million times, it has generally been a mess and I never did anything with it. I'd say search for it but I need to update the forums to the new build that includes the search function. ;)

Asking about the crowd level is not that deep. I think people ask because there are people on this board that go to Cedar Point frequently and those people know the general crowd level for a certain month. If I were to ask, "What are the crowd levels on the Memorial Day Weekend" someone could easily answer it if they have been to Cedar Point on the Memorial Day weekend.

As far as weather goes, it could be the nicest day in May or June and crowds could be low. Even though weather is a factor on crowds, it doesn't determine them.

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.

as a fellow newbie, i can feel where sansaari is coming from. Obviously none of you have a crystal ball and can predict the exact number of people who may be in the park on a given day. Yet there could be times where even when though school is out, the park historically has lighter crowds.Who better to ask that people who regularly go to the park and who may be able to identify these periods. if there are no such periods, whats wrong with kindly telling someone that. I personally do not believe such information is pointless and would understand that such information comes with and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Maybe the poster doesn't go to a lot of amusement parks...maybe this is his/her first time...who knows..do you have a policy that forces you to respond to someone's request? if the question bores you or seems unnecessary, why answer it at all? i'd rather get no response than a rude one

m.

Your point is well made and we agree with it. If you look at the CP operating schedule you will be able to figure out the ESTIMATED crowd level....sansarri was responding to a post I made regarding the crowd levels and best guesstimate there of. We are happy to "share" our knowledge and love of the park with anyone, and if you read my post.....http://www.guidetothepoint.com/cpplace.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=7985 you will see what I have spelled out as the best GUESStimate of crowd levels for the year. Someday Jeff may have a FAQ section What we want to avoid is a rash of ..."What will the crowd be on fill in the blank date" since NO ONE can predict the actual crowd level.

Here's an easy one:

How many Lemon Chills will CP sell on June 14, 2002?

who finds it highly amusing how many smartasses post on GTTP just to draw attention to themselves

Note: The above quote was from a post that was deleted while I typed my reply.

Yes - but there is a difference between smarta$$es and wanna-be smarta$$es :) Just like any other Internet community, lurking is encouraged for new members so that they can get a feel for the discussion. This has been an issue in newsgroups and mailing lists for years.

And the answer to Duane's question is easier than it appears.

I have been here for a couple of years and have found the answerers to questions to be generally friendly. But, (and there is always a but), newbies PLEASE look around the site (and CP's site) before you ask a question. There is a lot of the info that you are looking for at those 2 places!

I tend to be a bit silly myself here. I don't think that anyone here intends to be mean to anyone, but make things a little lighthearted.

People should read the bases to get an idea of what the topics are.

The regular contributers tend to look at things a lot different than your newbie who comes here for a few visits to get some info.

The community is here for everyone, but used more by the regular users who have a good idea what others are like and what they are looking for.

Personally, I love seeing funny little quips as long as they are meant to be silly, and not to be mean.

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.

Well, It's good to know that Sansaarai and her total of 4 posts will not be bashing us anymore...and for the newbies, it's much easier to predict crowd levels on holidays, than it is for a few regular days, three months from now...For example...I can tell you that crowd levels on July 4th are quite large...I have gone for 3 consecutive years on July 4th and the crowds seem pretty big...Every year is like this because July 4th will always be consistant....However, there is absolutly no way anyone can give you a prediction about non-holidays....it all comes into play with the weather and time of year it falls on....If someone wanted to know the crowd level on July 23-26....How should we know...it's still more than two months away. One year, these days could fall on the weekend, while a few years later, they could fall during the week....Weather and time of season are a big factor...Just guess to experience high crowd levels every time you go....that way, if the crowd level is down, then you will be excited because the crowds aren't as bad you thought....and if the crowds are bad, then it's a good thing you were ready for it, isn't it....Just a little reasoning about why none of us are psycics and we could tell you the answer, but we would just be guessing, kind of like the way the newbies are.

Be wary of falling shoes while waiting in line for Raptor

I think that alot of people make posts such as, "I am going to the park on 'this date'...so what's the weather going to be like?" just because they are excited about their upcoming trip, and they help their excitement by posting. Not only to say, "What's the weather like?", but more less to say, "I am going to Cedar Point soon. Yay!!!!!!!" And we all know if they did post that, it would not be allowed to be posted as a thread. Maybe my theory is wrong, but I know that I would probably make a mistake like this and ask a dumb question to calm my excitement. By the way Duane...my prediction is 1,520. lol!!

CP is the best!! I will never stop loving it. You gotta, you wanna, you have to hold on Cedar Point HOLD ON!!! :) :) :)

I'm assuming that other parks that have great, devoted websites like this (you're welcome Jeff) get the same kind of questions. We do have to remember how fortunate a lot of us are to be able to go to the park daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. Heck I know some people that go hourly. But many others never get to go, or go very rarely and they are truly excited. I understand that. I get that way about WDW, however, I get all the info about weather/crowds/etc on websites by reading them, not needing to make posts. Although I will say that WDW has hundreds of fan sites that make it easier.

CP is a great park with a wonderful community of fans that share, laugh, and enjoy each other here on GTTP.
