I live in Scranton, PA and this is one of our most popular bars.
And I doubt everyone goes there thinking of an Irish siren foretelling death.
Eh, whatever, I like the coasters just the same.

Ah, I see. I thought there was some sort of public outcry.
Yeah, it really came out of nowhere. Announced on September 8, name axed on September 13.
The officially announced "Mantis" on November 17, 1995, which was also the day cedarpoint.com was launched.
I was working at the resort at the time and we had been given t-shirts for the staff to wear (with the Banshee logo of course) along with buttons and other memorabilia to promote it during bonus weekends. They gathered up all the t-shirts and buttons (at least the ones they could get their hands on) and then redid the shirts with a "Ghostbusters syle O and slash" through the Banshee logo and the Mantis logo was added to the back.
But, I would say the Polticial Correctness initiative was in full force in the mid-90s so, looking back on it, it isn't that surprising that they got cold feet.

I still have my Banshee T-shirt, which says "1996 season passholder" on the sleeve.
Much better name. Another reason I despise political correctness.
And somewhere I still have a 1989 Detroit free press or News article that says the Magnum was originally going to be called the Psychopath, but the name was scrapped for similar reasons.
Tho in Maggie's case the Psychopath name was scrapped before it was ever announced to the public.
Haha the psychopath, that is an actually awesome name. Totally changes my perception of the ride

"Was going to be called" or "was also on the short list of options".
I can see the latter being the more likely of the 2 scenarios. Doesn't mean that it was ever very high up on the list though.

So the Christmas story is just a rumor? I thought something sounded fishy about that. No one gets a dictionary for Christmas! ;)
