Bank?

Hey guys. I was just wondering which bank would be the best to use up there. I currently have Wachovia, and there's none in/around the Sandusky area, and I was already thinking about switching banks when I got up there, so I was wondering which bank would be my best bet to use.

Thanks in advance. :)

If you don't plan on doing any check cashing or using any other bank services I'd stick with Wachovia. You can get your check direct deposited, just make sure your account has a debit card. I use Ally Bank and get my check direct deposited, they credit me any ATM fees, which means I don't have to pay to use CP ATMs when I feel like using cash. They are also open 24/7 which is a plus if you run into a problem while at CP and don't have time to call during the day. If you need a local bank, your choices are PNC, Fifth Third, Key, U.S. Bank, and Citizens. I forgot the name of the one in Wal-Mart. Woodforest Something.

I'd check Ally out.

There's a brief discussion of this here.

I still strongly advocate finding a credit union. Banks are run by scam artists.

[url][url]I would recommend you keeping your Wachovia account open, so that when you go back home, you can go back and use that bank as well. Or like said, you can have your checks direct deposited, and use Wachovia as your bank, just as long as you have a debit / credit / ATM card with that bank. Just check to see if there is a limit of ATM / debit transactions a person can have in one month. It is a warning that employees don't cash their checks and have a large sum of money in their rooms (or on hand).

One thing I noticed that I do is I use my debit card for basically everything (yes, I used it for something less than a dollar), and then whenever I need cash, I go to Kroger, Meijer, etc. At the checkout lane, I use my debit card and when the machine asks: "Do you want cash back?" I press "yes" and then type in the amount I want back.

I did the cash back option a lot too when I was with my old bank, it saves a lot of money on ATM fees. Then my old bank started charging fees for debit transactions (if you selected credit it was still free) so that's when I left for the green pastures of a credit union.
