It was time for my annual Cedar Point trip which I take at the same time every year. It began with a nice 2:30AM wakeup on Wednesday so we could arrive at Geauga Lake right before the waterpark opened. We got there at about 10:45AM and headed straight to wicked lightening once the park opened. This is a pretty fun ride, and I wish Cedar Point would install something similar in Soak City soon. We then hit up the 4 tube slides. This is one of the few slide complexes that actually offers 4 different rides, as they are all unique in their own way. All were good rides but I thought the blue slide was the best as I was spinning out of control the whole ride, going backwards and forwards. After a few rides we decided to dry off and hit up some of the theme park. We headed straight for Dominator and got in the front row in about 5 minutes. Awesome ride in the front and it feels like you are running on the track when you ride in the front. We then headed to The Villain….big mistake. Although Son of Beast is a longer ride that is consistently rough throughout, I thought Villain’s worst spots were a lot worse than any of Son of Beast’s spots. Knowing me though, I’ll probably still ride it again next year. After Villain we went to Grizzly Run. Poor ride and nobody on the raft got wet. To make matters worse we sat and baked in the sun for 10 minutes after the ride ended just to get back into the station due to the poor design of the loading/unloading. By now it was about 4PM so we headed to Cedar Point. Got to Cedar Point around 5:30PM and checked in at Hotel Breakers. I booked the 3-room double bed suite about a year ago because I knew there were only a few of those rooms and I wanted to make sure I got one. The view was great as it overlooked the beach and pool area, defiantly worth the 260/night compared to the other rooms for the prices. Relaxed the rest of the night as we had to get up early the next morning at 7AM, to get some exclusive ride time on Millennium Force!
Got up and got to Millennium Force around 7:15AM. I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to ride this early because Cedar Point was updating there film library and needed riders to fill 2 trains on the ride. Of course we had to ride in the “proper” riding position which means hands on the lap bar at all times, which felt weird since it was the first time I ended up riding holding on. Got in 11 rides in a row and started to blackout for half the ride after about my 5th ride, but I kept going, I couldn’t wimp out and quit! They got done shooting around 8:30AM and we headed back to the hotel to get some more rest. Got up in the afternoon and hit Soak City. After Soak City we went back in the park for the evening and got some good night rides on Raptor and Magnum. Magnum is probably the second best coaster that benefits from the night. The view of the lake at night is amazing and I won’t ride Magnum in the daylight anymore it’s just not the same. The only other ride that is benefits more is The Voyage in my opinion. Millennium Force runs close behind Magnum for me.
Woke up the next morning and hit Soak City at 10AM. This day was extremely windy and it was a little chilly standing in lines to get on slides at times. We noticed that the waves were of considerable size for a lake so we decided to go out in the lake and swim. After spending the whole afternoon on the beach we went into the park. Hit up a few more rides on Gemini, Mean Streak, Magnum, and Raptor. Got on Skyhawk too, and my opinion is that Max Air is better and both rides are very similar, especially to be put in back to back years.
The next morning we decided to get an early morning ride on Dragster, which had not been down once so far the entire time I was there that I noticed which was awesome. Got a good front seat ride and it is always a great ride the first time in the front. After this I headed back to the hotel and ran into Monty on the mid-way. We chatted for a few minutes about his construction blog and told him that I am looking forward to reading the one about Project 2007 when he starts it. I noticed that in the afternoon/evening Dragster went down for some reason but it was back up and running by the evening so it seemed to be just a minor breakdown. Ended the trip with a night ride on Millennium Force, which was awesome, being able to put my hands up and being at night made this ride the best ride of the trip!
The trip was awesome and the weather was perfect. Maybe I’ll get to see myself on one of the commercials in the near future? Next year should be even better, with the addition of the new coaster; and who knows, maybe even an addition to Soak City in the offseason??
I waited an hour for my Millennium Force night ride and an hour for my morning Dragster ride in the front.
Everything else was 30minutes or less, which is typical when I go as I hit the park mainly in the late evening, since I spend 4 nights there.
