August 20-21

This was the third time in my last four visits where it rained for most of the time. Regardless, I think I'm developing a taste for visiting in the rain. There are no crowds, there's still stuff to do, and when there's a break in the rain they do a good job getting stuff up and running quickly. On top of that, after visiting on a Friday Halloweekend last year when it was 40 and raining, 70 and raining this time around seemed downright pleasant.

Monday was kind of miserable since it was raining steadily most of the day, but that didn't stop us. We went on Thunder Canyon right off the bat, thinking if we got soaked then getting wet from the rain wouldn't matter. Then we got on Skyhawk and maXair, the rain kind of hurt but it was fun. It quit raining in the afternoon and most of the other rides started up quick, so we got on MF, Power Tower and Dragster, among others. It kind of sucked that they closed at 8 instead of 10, because we could have done more in the evening after the rain quit.

Tuesday was better, I don't think it really rained all day although it was overcast. We spent most of the day in Soak City since it was closed the day before. I hadn't been there in years and forgot how much fun it was. Luckily we got on the Zoom Flume before it went down for mechanical problems with the lift. After that we went in the park for a bit and hit a few things that we missed the day before like Maverick.

We stayed at Lighthouse Point as always, grilling burgers and hot dogs, swilling beer and having fun. The only park food I ate this time was a burger basket at Soak City, which was disgusting but I was hungry. The burger was like a rotten pork chop with an unmelted slice of processed cheese. I expected little more.

So anyway it was a good time, and another example of how you shouldn't let rain scare you off. We're always hellbent on having fun no matter what. Looking forward to Halloweekends now.

EDIT: BTW, we had a cabin on Ottawa Pond. I would've preferred a cottage on the lake, but we had a lot of people with us and the cabins seem to sleep more. They really need a little bridge across the middle of that pond. We had a cabin in the middle of the south side, and we had to park on the north side, so we had to keep walking aaaallll the way around the pond. It was kind of annoying so we resorted to jumping over the narrow middle section of the pond. My sister fell in, it was kind of funny. *** Edited 8/23/2007 5:30:53 AM UTC by Jeremy Sell***
