August 14th compensation

I was at the Point on the day of the blackout. They made us all leave our names, adresses, and number of people in our party so they could contact us. Well today I got a letter from the point. To all those who were at the park on the 14th they are offering your choice of: 4 free starlight admissions, 4 free Friday Fright Nights admissions, or 1 free upgrade to Funday admission. I'm leaning more towards the Fright Night admissions. However with CP offering this, it will probably be more crowded than usual.

They're offering free admissions to Fright Nights? How'd they pull that off?

Easy. It's Cedar Point, Michael Darling. I'd expect nothing less. Even though it was not their fault, they come through for the GP.

The Friday Fright Night is the same value as the starlight tickets ... 24.95. So basically they're giving people back almost all the time that they were shorted. Another reason why CP is number one.

No ! They do not have Freeway for Dragster.

I would've said sorry about your luck, but good for them, I guess.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

I was merely implying that I thought it would be impossible for CP to get folks free admission to another park... that's all.

It's not like they're losing money on these free admissions anyway... they'll be making money from the 4 people who show up, thats for sure. "Sorry for your luck" would be horrible from a customer satisfaction and marketing standpoint..

Well, I took my letter from Dan Keller to guest services this morning, and here is what I found:

In spite of the fact that the information included with Mr Keller's letter states: "CP will provide up to four free Starlight admission tickets", they will not provide tickets. Ms. Otto at guest services told me that to take advantage of this offer, the letter should be shown at guest services at the time the admissions are to be used; then, the letter-bearers will be allowed to enter the park through the guest services office.

Ms Otto's interpretation of Mr Keller's offer is different than mine.

What's the difference?

Walt, the difference is EASY to see...CP will only give tickets to people who are actually going to use them right then and there;) Not to someone who may take 4 tickets and SELL them on an auction website.

While I don't have the exact text of the letter, I am sure it states along the lines of the first post; 4 free starlight admissions, etc. NEVER mentions FOUR FREE tickets.

BTW, this is another example of CP going WAY above the call of duty. I wonder what any other amusment parks effected by the black-out did? cough SFWOA cough

Old Timer Tim: The exact wording from the offer is:"Cedar Point will provide up to four (4) free Starlight admission tickets (valued at $24.95 each)."

My interpretation of Mr Keller's offer for "tickets", means that paper tickets would be provided that could be used "any day of the remainder of the 2003 operating season", as stated in his letter.

I understand the reasons for CP not wanting to issue transferrable tickets, but the offer is misleading if that is the case. That beguiled information led me to waste my time going to guest services this morning.

It's no huge deal, in that I was at the park for my weekly Wednesday morning Magnum multi-ride anyway.

Like Tim said, they do it this way so people don't take advantage of the situation. I don't see what the problem is. Can you type the entire letter into a post? I'd like to see what it says.

Aren't you a season pass holder?

Walt,

With my pathetic typing skills, it would take me a prohibitive amount of time to retype the entire letter into a post.

I will scan the letter and email it to you. I hope that is alright.

Eric

And yes, I am a season pass holder. Although I don't believe that distinction should preclude my family from compensation.

I don't see how someone who purchased a funday ticket is entitled to compensation. The park is being very generous. That's one thing. But there's no way a season pass holder deserves any compensation because the park closed a few hours early. And then complain because you can't get paper tickets? Wow.

My complaint is over the wording of the offer. I take exception to wasting my time because of an offer that was misleading. If I can figure out my scanner, I'll email you a copy of the offer, if you're interested. Perhaps once you read the offer, you'll see my point.

Being a season passholder, tickets, be they paper or otherwise, are of no benefit to me.

Then why did you waste your time going to Guest Services?

This was covered previously, but I'm happy to reiterate: I went to guest services with the arguably correct opinion that four Starlight tickets were there for me to pick up. This is how I understood the offer I recieved from Dan Keller. My time was wasted due to misunderstanding.

If Cedar Point prefers to have patrons fulfill this offer by using the letter from Mr Keller as the actual ticket (which I believe now to be the case), so be it. Actually, that would make sense. But they need to clarify their procedure.

I believe this discussion has come full circle.

So you think you're entitled to something as a season pass holder? Like tickets you can sell?

Lame.

It seems to me people are getting a little greedy. CP is doing the best they can, they couldn't predict the blackout, just like they can't predict the weather. Weather shuts down the rides for longer than that blackout did and i don't see people complaining about compensation then. The only people who should recieve it are those who were stuck in or on the rides. They are the ones who should be recieving something. Just my opinion.

I just wondered why you would pick up something that is of no benefit to you?

E-mail a scan of the letter and I'll upload for everyone. Seems to me you are playing semantics and missing the intent of the letter. No doubt the policy given to you at Guest Services came from the top and was the park's intention from the start.
