"If we go any faster, she'll blow apart for sure!"
I've been on this site from darn well near the start and have come to meet and enjoy many good times with a lot of great people from GTTP. Matter of fact I am honored to call Jeff, Dan, Jo, Nat, OTT, Brandon, Rob, Anne, skykicker, Tony and many others great friends now. I love you guys!!
Its because of this site that CP is that much more of an important part of my past and future and it really annoys me to see some of these immature and arrogant people spew garbage on the image of GTTP and more importantly Jeff Putz our webmaster. Many of you whine, claim to be a know all, and pretty much just like to read your garbage up on the big screen and say hehe I did that when you hit submit!
Fact of the matter is that GTTP is what we make it and I feel its one of the most informative and entertaining forums out there,..... when we all think before we post..Some are right when they point out that we all have been guilty at one time or another for posting garbage or flaming someone but hey that doesn't mean we can't learn from those experiences and THINK next time.
I applaud Jeff for putting up with so much garbage and personal attacks from morons like CPlifer or people who "don't get it" like coaster (mis-spelled)mania! I have to add that I don't know that if I was in Jeff's shoes if I would of put up with some of you this long and you know who some of you are! Why can't the idiots out there just realize that Jeff does this out of his Love for CP like most of us post for our love and that makes us one very strong and more passionate groups out there on the net!
For those who are just hear to mentally fart on the screen..well just go away if you would be so kind as we really don't need you!
I'm sorry to vent like this but I just couldn't stand to see someone as good as Jeff who puts this site here for us to talk CP get blasted and ridiculed for his love for a place like GTTP! In reality all he wants to do is keep this community a clean, educational, and fun place for us coasterhaulics to post!!
Jeff you deserve a pat on the back and a rubber taco!!

"Mentally fart on the screen..."
My English teacher used to refer to it as "verbally throwing up"...basically just spewing garbage.
Bringing up a comparasion to Hitler and the Nazis is just plain low. I never would have thought that Cedar Point and those terms could be used in the same topic of discussion...
I wont get into any love fests. But I will say this, if you dont like Jeff's sight for whatever reason, feel free to point your browser elsewhere. Personally, I dont see what so many peoples problem with the man is. I mean Jeff and I dont agree about say 90% of the S-H that gets talked about on coaster forums, but as long as you come at it with some semblance of reasoning you wont "get taken to the woodshed like a 5 year old".
Now if all you say is "This sux", "U R A moron" and "ppl kneed ta no Milenium Force RULZ and Wron Tumor wuz stoopid!" (misspellings intentional), then maybe you need to be treated like a child because there were obviously some things that you missed in your elementary education.
Isnt one of the requirement here that you have to be at least around 7th grade? (i.e. 13)

I didn't build it to be popular, I built it to have meaningful conversation about one of my favorite places on the planet. You're a part of that or your not... I honestly don't care. The only people I talk to like five-year olds are people who post like them.
I'd be curious to know what you qualify as "meaningful conversation". I have seen several topics here and at Coasterbuzz that were reasonably valid, but were closed. Obviously because you felt it wasn't appropriate. Since you said you don't care if people visit here and/or the site is popular, why have the site to begin with? It's not self serving is it? While the site is popular and several people do visit, I can only be amused at what upsets you sometimes to the point of closing a topic. I have seen you say in another topic that you are amazed at what still bothers people. I believe that was in the thread at CB in regards to your wife's picture on the front page. I found that rather ironic at the time. I am very appreciative for this site and found it very resourceful.

Meaningful conversation is spelled out, plain as day, in the TOS. That definition has evolved a little, but it's applied evenly and without prejudice. I don't get "upset" over topics and close them. I don't sweat the small stuff.
I know exactly the topic you're talking about. I ask you, what's meaningful about a suggestion to replace the photo of my wife? What does that have to do with anything? It's like the stupid people who were recently ragging on one of the CoasterBuzz affiliates for not updating his site more frequently. "Hello, crack baby? You're coming down and getting bored."

I built it to have meaningful conversation about one of my favorite places on the planet.

4) People fear the mods slightly
I'm sorry but that's funny. If there are people out there who are "fearing mods" then they are taking this internet thing just a bit too far.
When I say "fear mods" I mean that in a forum where you pay $9.95 to join in the first place, getting banned is bad, because it means you lose your $9.95 and may have to spend more if you want an account again. So you post with caution, rather than just posting little stupid stuff.
Just clarification.

Jeff is a great guy. People seem to think I have a personal crusade against him and the work he does, but this is hardly the case. Because he moderates and pays for this discussion forum, he can run it however he wants to.
Do I think Jeff does a good job?
Yes, I think he does a fantastic job. I think the endemic problem with this site usually manifests itself when a post is put up bereft of critical thinking. If putting up a diatribe against Jeff's opinions is necessary for a person wishing to post, then, for the sake of precluding garbage, make the post topical and support your grievances with evidence.
I'll let it be known to everyone that, in spite of what you read, I consider Jeff a friend simply because he allows argumentative thought. I only ever get snapped back at when he disagrees with what I write. I consequently back up my opinions as best I can.
Calling someone a "moron" doesn't do much of anything. Now, you can claim an idea is moronic, but only if you can support your claim.
Evidence and ideas are at the very crux of positive conversation; thus, I will use an example. I made a personal attack on someone outside the forum, which prompted Jeff to delete my post. After having the forum rules explained to me, I was able to successfully avoid further deletions. In the case of the seminal thread catalyzing this discussion, if Jeff says that he wants proper grammar and succinct posts, then by all means make succinct and grammatically correct posts. If this is a problem, then tell Jeff why. Jeff is not a dumb person; he can give you a good reason behind his opinions that deserve fastidious rumination. Calling him a moron downplays all the work he does and assumes that he isn't open to thought.
Jeff is very open to thought. Don't be afraid to disagree, but be very ready to defend what you say.
Of course, my defense techniques are probably the worst, eh Jeff? :-)
Warm regards,
Dan
Well, you kind of touch on the central theme that dictates moderation on my site: Opinions are fine, but if you get "nuked" it isn't because someone disagrees with you, it's because you don't follow the rules.
Sometimes people disagree (and that's OK), but people think it's personal. Look at that whole thread on CoasterBuzz about capacity for Wicked Twister. Because someone from SFGAm thinks CP can't get 1,000 pph makes it fact? I don't think so. "Because I said so" is never an argument, yet when you challenge someone who makes that "argument," they think you're hating on them. Not the case.
