Are they evacuating the park?

Thats a very rare mass exodus in what looks to be decent weather on the webcam.

We have Tornado warnings here in Metro Detroit and these systems appear to beheaded straight for the park.

Boy did we get hit. Dragster, Maverick and Millennium got hit by lightning. I was under the locker shade by Dragsters entrance when the storm really got bad. It was intense and the lightning strike that hit Dragster made everyone jump. :)

How bad were they hit. Will they be running tomorrow or at least by CoaaterMania?

Wow! isn't the Maverick like 105' tall??? and it was strucked by lightning, You should have seen the storm via Dragster Cam! It almost seems as if a waterspout passed over parts of the parking lot. I would think WindSeeker would get strucked the most meaning thats it right near a large body of water. Thanks good that nobody was hurt :)

I remember back in 2007, Kentucky Rumbler was hit by lightning a few days before the first Rumblefest. A computer board was fried. GCI overnighted them the new part and they got it up just in time for the event.

Boy this is the year for storms. I was home and the storm lasted about an hour, much shorter than the real doozy of a storm that we had on Wednesday. That series of storms lasted about 530 to 830, and there was a tornado in Huron county that damaged a barn.

In another storm last week TTD was hit by lightning, but up and running late the following afternoon.

I can't believe I slept through that. :( I remember seeing a storm heading our way on the radar, then going to bed.

2011 - Trash Crew

My wife and kids were actually taken off of dragster when they closed it down for the storm. We took shelter for a bit at the lockers by dragster than we went to go to the arcade, but was packed. We went up to the ballroom and were only a handfull of people there. What a show from up there with all the lightning. What a day at the park!!!

In 2009, when I worked on SkyRide, we had to take shelter in the Demon Drop maintenance room. While there, lightning had struck the ride, made us all jump!

Does anybody know the details of the damage the storm caused? Will the big three roller coasters be in operation by today or tomorrow? What about for Coaster Mania?

The velocity signature on radar that went from southwest of Battle Creek all the way up towards Owosso yesterday in Michigan caused some pretty intense damage. Straight line winds are nothing to take lightly.

Nothing like the tornado outbreak we had here in Oklahoma last Tuesday though. Lots of houses were reduced to slabs, some of them wiped completely clean and plumping ripped up.

Didn't someone die in the Kentucky Rumbler incident, or was that another incident?

I was there and Mother Nature put on a show.We got off the Dragster and saw they were closing the Iron Dragon. So we walked fast to the Game Day Grille and got seated just before all heck let loose. After it ended we went out and the Midway was flooded about 6-8 inches deep. The CP store under the Sky Ride was also flooded.Low spots in the parking lot had to be 10 inches deep.

All is well now with Dragster and Millennium.

Good News!! Thank you for the update there Adam. :) Big Al, was there any merchandise damage inside the CP Shop underneath the Sky Ride? Hopefully they closed that shop today so they can clean up inside.

You have to remember that these rides are essentially giant lightning rods. You can't build a 420 foot steel tower and expect it not to get hit. Windseeker at King's Island has been hit multiple times. It is not rare.

To add on to "Your mom is to fat to ride TTD." most of these rides have several grounds in them, to when they are struck by lightning it won't really affect the ride at all.

Rides get struck by lightning more than you think! After a storm (where a ride is more than likely going to be struck by lighting) the ride after being down due to weather is going to be tested no matter what and will be operational as long as there are no problems. I'm pretty sure after the storms yesterday that the rides were up in no time.

Not sure about any damage in the CP shop.It was dark inside and I did not want to walk through the water.

The storm was intense last night and lasted just under an hour. The insane winds only seemed to last a minute or two, though. I was stuck hiding out under that dodgems. I don't know what the impact on the rides was, but I do know that Millenium and Top Thrill did not re-open last night and both had intermittent down time today, especially Top Thrill.
