Are some people annoyed by the "obsession?"

I was wondering if anyone had any friends or relatives that are annoyed by the Cedar Point obsession/interest that you all have. For me, my girlfriend hates Cedar Point now. She says I talk about it way too much! She wont even step foot into the park anymore because of my "obsession." Does this sound like anyone?

I don't speak about it around my friends, unless they also enjoy roller coasters and such. My family are freaks when it come to amusement parks, so I don't get any lip about my obsession.

Maybe your girlfriend hates cedar point because she thinks you love cedar point more then her. Also why are all you people obsesed with cedar point? It's just and amusement park there are other things in life way better.

Like what, there is nothing I would rather have than Cedar Point in my backyard, nothing. And I do not tend to make a big deal about it, it just makes you look a little stupid.

lol. yes it does make you look stupid espescially if your an adult and cedar point is an obsession. There's tons of things better then cedar point like girls, sports, friends, parties, and girls. Most people get past a cedar point obsession when there in there childhood but some of you are still in your childhood fantasy world.

Woot, First Post...

And on topic, Yeah, people often get annoyed when I talk about it. But sometimes I feel that there is no one at all to tell about. I know no one in my area that really likes the place/rollercoasters.

Lol, I don't talk about Cedar Point too much around my friends unless the topic comes up, but they always ask me if they have a question about it. They all love going there too, but they're not quite as into it as I am.

It depends on what friends im around, some of them I can talk it up with, other I have to keep it to my self.

I fall into the category of "My fiancee would like me to not quite look at Coaster websites as much as I do." I've even gotten a few "You like CP more than you like me" discussions. I know I get ridiculous sometimes and need to "tune back" my coaster viewing, but what can I say? I love her very much though and I do visit this site quite a lot during the off-season. Good thing I'll have my fiancee and the park all summer.

I even wanted to propose at Cedar Point but she vetoed the idea on the account that she would say no if I did. So I proposed in Sandusky at the Brown Derby Roadhouse and she said yes. YAY!

I totally hear you guys on this. My friends won't let me talk about it unless I let them talk first about something I don't want them to talk about. We have a trade off.

It's funny though b/c when I get excited about something new with CP, I just smile really big and my friends are like "ok, we know you want to tell us something about CP, so just go ahead".

It's kinda pathetic, but if you grew up going there, your dad and all his bro's and sis-in-law worked there, and now I work there, it's hard not to talk constantly about it!

I get irritated by people who go wayyyy overboard with it.

I talk about it with friends and such to the extent that its "Hey, did you hear about the new ride at CP? Oh, this is what it does... sounds cool!"

But I dont talk about it unless something happens (announcement, etc..) that gives a real reason to talk about it.

As for the girls thing, at least roller coasters dont backstab you, cheat on you, and they don't pull hundreds of dollars a week from your wallet. A roller coaster will never cry if you ignore it for more than a day, a roller coaster will never become to attached, though you might to it. But it doesnt matter because a roller coaster won't dump you! ok im done lol.

Jeff, you didn't have to bother posting, we all know what you think about it;)

Ahhh, I remember when I was that age...you know, the age when you had so little to worry about that you would daydream of the park and summers past.

I think the problem of the obsession stems from having too much downtime and nothing to do. It seems that to many of us Cedar Point is heavan on earth, where we can have a good time and leave the worries of the rest of the world behind you. Once you're old enough, you should definitely work there for a summer. I guarantee it will be one of the most memorable, fun summers of you life.

In the meantime, you just need to find something to do to get you through the winter months. RCT2 is a fun little fix (too bad RCT3 sucks) as well as the many coaster videos you can watch on the the net. Instead of just thinking about it all the time, why don't you channel that obsession into something constructive and build a coaster model. If you feel really ambitious, try to make a working, nonstatic model.

Maybe find some other interests besides roller coasters?

Just a suggestion.

I think Tambo just won this thread.

First off, I hate when new people come on this site to just slam people! Two posts and it seems like you think that you know everyone on here! Second, I do not agree that having an obsession with C.P. makes anyone look stupid. I think that is a pretty stupid comment itself! Many people are obsessed with many different things in life. If we all had the same obsessions in life, then the world would be pretty boring, in my opinion. Yes, all of the things that you mention that are better then C.P., in your opinion, are good. Even I have a partial season ticket package plan for the Indians and go to a number of car races throughout the summer, but when I want to "go and leave the world behind" for a while C.P. is the first place that I think about going! Obsession, I do not believe so, but anyone who is should not be considered stupid!

Did I say they were stupid? No I said it makes them looks stupid to 99.9% of the world. Yes people have other obsessions but I think people who are obsessed with roller coasters fall into the category of people that are obsessed with star trek, dungeons and dragon, star wars, and the matrix.

Everyone has obbsessions it's weather or not people like them or not. Why if you like something you need to find a inturest? It's sad that some think that it's pathetic that some of us are obbsesed with this park. Those people have other obbsessions. This is a "fan" site not a place to critize the fans.
