There should be a zero tolerance policy regarding this issue. I've never been on a ride stopped for a violation of that, but I'd hate it if I was. I think anyone caught should be escorted out of the park.
A phone or camera hitting someone on the head could seriously injure or possibly even kill someone.
I heard this story in my employee orientation back in 2005, I don't know if it's true or not. But they said there was someone on Sky Ride that dropped something and hit guests below. The employee, who hadn't processed in yet, called 911 and they were arrested by CP Police when their cabin pulled into the station. I don't know what the object was or if the story is true or not, but I like how it was handled. If you hurt someone, you should be arrested and fined.
I wish we had this kind of authority, but we don't and also security can be anywhere in the park, so their response isn't always right then and there. Think these rides are at max about 3-5 min in length so getting them there takes some time.
Also if we kicked them out, they either get evaced off the ride (more downtime) or we let them ride the ride sans loose article, then get them at the end of the ride if security is there.
It's one of those, I wish we could really enforce a policy really well, but we can't, which is something I hate. When I see these crappy POV videos where they pull it out on past lift crest or hide it and then turn it off before you hit the brakes, they know what they're doing is bad, so it just ticks me off even more.

In years past, they used to have security waiting on violators when they get off the ride. Seen it several times on MF. On one September Sat. this year when I was in line, they e-stopped MF two different times, ran side car up and took phones. Didn't see security.
Yeah I guess it could be based on severity or compliance..
My year you just called park op & went down up guest article, went up took the ride, reset lift, lift enabled and away you went...when they came back you gave the train and crowd a good scolding, then politely gave said loose article back..

That would really tick me off on MF. The wait is typically long already and now add to it because of some num-skull....
So many things come down to the problem of attempting to legislate common sense. Common sense tells me a rollercoaster is no place to take pictures or text someone. Common sense also tells me that the Skyride is a nice place to take pictures from BUT don't ever hang your camera over the side. If you keep it in the cabin with your arms and legs like you are told nothing bad would happen. of course we can't trust anyone to actually be that careful or use their brain so I'm breaking rules everytime I take a pic from Skyride even though I've thought out the safety issue and taken care of it.
Remember back when there used to not be gates that opened/closed so you could get on the train? Just a yellow line to stay behind. I don't think anyone ever fell in the tracks, at least not at CP.
Don't even get me started on the kiddie ride buckles with the separate ride operator lock.
This is what happens when lawyers, lawsuits, and injuries happen...
Things just get worse and worse..

The first time my husband went to Kings Island he was making fun of the gates. He said, "Cedar Point never needed anything like that, people know to stay behind the line." He also remarked about the head rests on everything. Well now times have changed. I would imagine it's now an insurance issue like everything else nowadays, can't be too careful. (Or can we)
Speaking of the husband, I'd been harping at him all season with him being cavalier and sticking his sunglasses on the front neck of his shirt when he rides, or even holding them in his hand. He always poo-poohed me. He finally lost them on Power Tower. I told him so, but also that they could hit somebody. Granted, not as heavy as a cell phone but still.

I think the gates are required now by the State of Ohio.
But, yes, things have changed dramatically. I remember in the old days how the Blue Streak crew sometimes rode the running board on the train as it was leaving the station to get the last one or two restraint bars down. Or, how the Corkscrew girls used to hit the restraint release pedal on each car while the train was still moving into the station. Now even the ride operators have to be in their own little safety zone before the train can move.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
^You have no clue how much that would make my day if you could pop pedals as it rolls in...Def would help hit theoretical interval with that

It is always eye-opening to go to Holiday world and watch the ride ops cross across the track, with no train in the station. Can you imagine how that would go over at CP?
There's no reason to cross before the train comes back in, crossing takes just seconds. You can cross during things like shutdowns (we had a train stopped in the trim brake @ corkscrew and during the shutdown we crossed over to the other side of the brake run to get to the phone in the very back.
However again, you can usually just normally wait till station stop to cross..

At HW, they cross back and forth, taking bags and loose articles from the next group of riders, and place those things in the bin. So, in theory it speeds up loading the train if riders don't have to cross the train, put items in the bin, and get buckled up.
I thought HW had free lockers w/ admission?
Anyways if people need help I just grab em and they sit and get in...It'll speed it up slightly, but you'll still have the main issue I keep seeing more and more on rides, people not fitting

Some dude yapping behind me on his cell when we were getting to ready to launch on TTD. I didn't realize that was what he was doing until they turned the pre-launch off and I wondered if TTD was going to be down. (It just had a roll back on the same train when we were next in line.) Then a ride op came up to him and I think he was way too polite about it. These people should at least be embarrassed they were the cause of the hold-up.
I missed the boat again when another guy walking in front of us lit up while walking down the TTD line again. He was being very discreet and cautious about it and I was just about to say something when we were approaching the main queue when he put it out halfway done. I ended up not saying anything at all but he must have known it was a no-no.
When waiting for Gatekeeper that evening, there were two line jumpers, meeting halfway through the line. They were telling the people they met up they just got done using their fast pass and the guy let them get back in again but I don't know why they went to that point in the line with fast passes. So I just thought forget it.
Cell phones, line jumpers, and smokers, oh my! I'll try to do better speaking up about it next time.

Sunday it seemed there was an unusually high amount of smoking. Maybe it was just me noticing it more because I was having major asthma issues all day.
I really don't understand how someone can think it's possible to have a phone conversation on TTD even if it wasn't against the rules.
I always am waiting in line and the people ahead of me pull out they're smart phones while in line doing whatever they're doing and then when they get the ride, they decide to get it out while riding to take pictures of themselves with their buddies. Why cannot people just take pictures of themselves in front of the ride entrance?
Saturday was a big smoking day as well. Normally I barely notice it, but this last trip with the family it really stood out. Very blatant too. Maybe the smoking policy isn't posted enough to make it effective, or the designated smoking areas are not identified well enough? Not sure, but even my 16 year old son was getting pretty annoyed, and it isn't something we normally point out or make an issue of. In ride ques, in main walkways, etc.
