Applying to Cedar Point

I am thinking applying to cp for next summer. I have heard that it is really fun to work at. though I am way across the country, I think it would be fun.I see that you are able to apply online, would any of you advise doing that? Is it fastier and easier to do it that way. How long does it usually take for you to get contacted and interviewed? I am really willing to do this, but I am just scared I will have a hard time getting there, you know I will need to fly into cleveland, and on the website I would have to take the greyhound to sandusky, and I dont' know how far cp is from the greyhound station, so I dont know how much that would be. If anyone could help me out, that woudl be great. I don't know if anyone who works there lives as far away as I do, but maybe you can give me some pointers. Also, is it true, you guys work so much? May I ask, is the bonus program really good, and how much do you usually make over hte summer. the pay out here in california for min wage is 6.75, so the pay deduction there woudl be different for me, but I am willing to give it a go.

Hi Shelly!

It's true, you are able to apply online and I highly encourage you to do so. We won't start accepting applications until mid-December, so be sure to check back then. Once you've submitted it online, HR has it in their database and they start phone interviews in early January.

People work at Cedar Point from all over the world, so you're definitely not alone in traveling far. You're right that you'll have to come into the Sandusky Greyhound station and, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the station is on 250 just south of 2. You can always take a taxi to the park, but you might also be able to work something out with CP.

All employees work 6 days a week and, from my personal experience, hours usually fall somewhere in between 50-60 hours/week. It might seem like a lot, but you're having a lot of fun and, remember, the more you work, the more money you make!

Hope that answered some of your questions and hope to see you next summer!

Shelly-

I flew out from Arizona last year for the job. I didn't get as many hours as I thought I would but I did have a blast. I also applied online and I thought it was pretty easy. I think it took two weeks for them to email me back with the number to call. Overall, the whole process was pretty easy. The one thing about the bonus is its good as long as you dont think you will have to leave early or get fired.

PS- Apply as early as possible! A newspaper out here last year said that they had to put people on a list because so many people applied last year, but I don't know if that is 100% true since they really needed lifegaurds last year. Anyways, Good luck!

Hi there!

It definately is a great experience working at CP. You meet a lot of great people. Yeh it is a long way for you, but yeah as Jeff said, people fly in from all over the world. We had a bunch of guys from Poland in our department and they were some of the greatest guys you would ever meet. You have to be willing to work the 50 - 60 hours a week though, but you are guarenteed a day off every week. Many days you don't even recognize how long you have been there because the days will go by fast. Apply early if you want more of a choice of jobs. Hope to C U @ the Point!

HAHAHA, I live in Redlands (I hope you heard of it, it's so freakin' close) and I'll going for my fourth year at the point next year (lifer baby). I've done the whole not knowing what the heck is going on thing my first year back in 2002. So, let me run down your questions.

1) Yes apply online! The earlier the better for anywhere you want to work, especially rides. They start taking applications in December. The longer you can work, the better.

2)Being interviewed and contacted usually starts in January if I recall correctly, I guess it really depends on when you put in your application. Cedar Point has this new thing online that lets you see the progress of you application (like if someone has reviewed it, stuff like that)

3)Getting there isn't as hard as it seems, what's worse is the price if you don't know anyone. A cab from the Airport to the Greyhound station is about $25, the Greyhound ticket is about $15 and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half. If you call Cedar Point, you can arrange to be picked up at the Greyhound station by housing (limited to new arrivals only, and only if they're not busy), otherwise a cab should run you about $6-8 depending on who you go with. Just go in the greyhound station and ask for a phone book or something. Cedar Point is not that far from the greyhound station. Contact Cedar Point and try to work something out with them ahead of time though.

4)Yup, just about as far as you.

5)It's already been covered, but you usually work around 50-60 hours, 6 days a week. And if you really think about it, if you complete your contract, your essentially getting paid $7.25/hour ($6.25/hr plus $1 for every hour worked) How much you want to save is up to you.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I'm sure with all the vast knowledge on this site, SOMEONE will no the answer.
