I don't know if being 17/turning 18 will affect whether or not you can be a ride op or not. The experience may help you there.
Coming from NV, I'd fly in then take a bus to CP, there will always be cabs there when the bus comes in or you can call one easily and they know right where to go. Or else I'd take the bus all the way, even though it would undoubtedly be a long, boring trip. If you're driving, grab the 80/90 Ohio Turnpike as quickly as you can and follow the signs.
For what type of stuff to bring, search this site! There are plenty of threads with suggestions for that sort of thing, no need to relist it all here. The best suggestion: pack light! You won't have much room, and you'll be working so much you won't have time to use a lot of stuff anyway. Plus it's less to travel with!
The phone interview is no big deal. They'll ask if you consider yourself physically fit/athletic, do you have a problem working 50+ hours/week in all weathers, stuff like that. It's more of a formality than anything, don't sweat it. And definately use that time (and their quarter!) to ask about locations and any other questions you may have -- that's half the reason why they call! Especially coming from so far away, you'd hate to get there and not be able to stand it.
Enjoy! :)
