Anybody ever hurt/killed on a CP Coaster?

I'm just curious...has anyone ever been hurt badly (or killed) on an EXISTING coaster? How about a non-existing one?

I am just curious as to how the park handled it...if "it" has ever happened.

Nope, not due to the ride itself. There have been heart attacks and such, but no mechanical failure.

That is amazing! Over 100 years! That says something for CP Saftey!

The only thing close that I remember was a few years back,a 14 year old girl died after a ride on the Wildcat, but it was due to an unknown heart condition. I thought I heard a few years back too that a guy had his arm hanging out of the train going into the station on meanstreak and severed his hand.

On a lighter note, there are the people back in 89 who got heads and arms ripped off going into the tunnel on Magnum. But that problem was alleviated when the track sank and didn't take the tunnels with it...

From what I understand Jeff is right about most injuries are from the "human" condition.. The only thing that I would add is stupidity and people trying to do themselves in.

Year after year we hear about people trying to stand up and being escorted down the lift hill by security or some other dumb thing.

Loose lapbelts, not follwing the size limits, and really NOT reading the signs. It is not a HUGE leap of logic that if you have back problem DONT ride the ride. I figure the loops or drops or speed would be enough for people to get the point. I guess not.

There is a pending legal suit about a guy that was "to tall" and should not have been allowed to ride the corkscrew. He claims that he hurt his back. I was there that day and rememeber them getting him out of the corkscrew.

Obviously we can't debate the legality of the guy's suit. This is more of the types of stuff CP see's regularly....

No one has been killed in the modern era, however I'm pretty sure there is something in the book "CP: Queen of American Watering Places" that talks about a rider on one of the coasters being drunk and somehow getting out of the train and getting struck by the next train coming through.

It wasn't a mechanical failure - more of a rider stupidity type of thing.

Hmm, I do seem to remember an incident with Space Spiral and a ride OP. Anyone else?

Well, if I remember correctly the loud ring never used to be there, and was added later for safety reasons after, sadly, a ride operator was smashed to death underneath the cabin. That would hurt.

It didn't sink low enough, there is a reason why I now try and keep my hands down when entering the tunnels. ;)

Sadly, two people died after riding the Wildcat in two different years of almost the identical problem. It was heartbreaking but was not the fault of the park. That is the best evidence that these G-force opponents off base.

If someone has a pre-existing condition, it will show up anywhere. Nobody could call the Wildcat an "extreme" ride.

I think everybody hurts they're back on the corkscrew.....i rode it a few times and every time i rode it i hit my back on the seat and had a HUGE bump on my back and even had to go to the doctor for it.

After that i never rode it again

Actually, Chief Wahoo, Wildcat pulls more G's than Millennium Force, so it all depends on how you quantify "extreme."

You are right Jeff. I am using "extreme" like the networks are. "Are coasters going too high, too fast, too crazy? Film at 11:00."

You didn't see members of Congress complaining about the likes of Wild Cat. That is what makes their argument so ridiculous.

Last year(2001) in line for woodstock express and raptor?? Can't remember details, just remember a heart attack.

Jeff, This is what I got from your site....Corkscrew chain snaps, no major injuries. (8/28/1999 12:00:00 PM)

According to readers in CP Place, television stations were reporting Corkscrew broke its chain Thursday. The 23-year old coaster's chain allegedly failed, slid down the lift, and caused several passengers in the train to suffer minor cuts and bruises.

I remember reading about Disaster Transport the year it opened. Apparently a prop from the ride fell into the trough. Luckily, it was made of foam, so I don't think anyone was injured.
The year Space Spiral was celebrating some anniversery..like 10th or something, it's slogan for the year was something like "It's never broken down" well, that year it got stuck for two days atop the tower.

And this topic's subject is "Anybody ever hurt/killed on a CP Coaster?".

In your reply you said: "Nope, not due to the ride itself. There have been heart attacks and such, but no mechanical failure."
