decided to take a last minute, impromptu trip for Starlight Hours with my 15yr old cousin on Monday (6/07/10). Mom & Dad surprised her with a Season Pass, and surprisingly we made it there by 6pm sharp- 45 minutes there from Rossford- even with the construction EAST on the Turnpike (which was riDONKulous!).
Got her photo taken, pass approved and headed to Raptor where we walked right on. Holy dead, Batman! The park was "EMPTY". As in, no one was there!! We literally walked right onto Magnum & Gemini.
The ride host, Bruce, @ Magnum was snarky & sarcastic with guests. Very funny to hear his comments (I felt his pain), but also 'very' unprofessional. Definitely something he could get written up over and a concern to surrounding guests.
Only a 45 minute wait for Maverick and the line moved fast- but wouldn't ya know it, as we got to the train...they shut it down as a train was stuck in the tunnel. At least we were no longer standing by the young man who smelled like a combination of mildew and dirty ass. Word of advice to park guests- please use proper hygiene skills as a courtesy to those around you. Yikes! But I digress. ANYWHO...the ride hosts (Josh and Jeff?) were so engaging and welcoming/considerate to everyone still waiting in line. It was great to see such upbeat attitudes! If I was them, I would've kicked out the 16yr olds standing in front of me, cussing up a storm demanding free season passes and dropping the "F" bomb, standing on the queue rails, and in general acting like degenerates. Instead, the ride hosts laughed and tried to engage them in conversation to the best of their abilities so a giant kudos to the Maverick ride hosts!!! After 20 minutes or so, we were able to board.
Walked 'right' onto Milennium Force. What? I know!! Couldn't keep eyes or mouth open for fear of inhaling muffleheads. The mufflehead invasion was intense to say the least! Someone needs to DEET or OFF! them!
Starlight Experience wasn't open quite yet and it was dark out. We noticed the 'floats' being geared up to be put in place, but they had a rather late start tonight. Don't know what the delay was.
Sadly, the park does not have the business or the staffing available but almost all food stands sans the Midway were closed by 8pm, as well as all of the gift shops. It was very frustrating to see everything closed so early, but what can you do?
Headed to Disaster Transport where we again...walked directly onto the ride. Then to Maxair where we walked directly....onto the ride.
Went to the "Hot Summer Nights" laser light show. Loved the fire cannons, fireworks and lasers. Amazing and yes...made me jump a few times. Hated the actual 'film'. OSU & Michigan football? Detroit & Cleveland? Huh? What does that have to do with Cedar Point and Summertime? And of course, being Cedar Point...they had to end with some Lee Greenwood and a sing a long to "God Bless America" (the Kate Smith version from the 1940's..whereupon half the crowd was either gone by that point or said "Who's that fat bitch?". Stay classy, Sandusky!). Why do all Cedar Point shows end with a patriotic number? Just sayin'.
As we walked towards the Main Midway, it was odd because there was such a small crowd that we felt very polarized. It was great to have 'the park to ourselves', but wow...I wonder what factors played into it? Were people recovering from the tornado and storm tragedies nearby? Was it because it was a Monday? Sorta scary.
Then took a relaxing, leisurely drive down the Chausee towards Cleveland Road. Got onto 250 and stopped at McDonalds in front of the mall for some jumbo Sweet teas. This was at 10:50pm, and all of their lights were off. I went through the drive-thru and the girl had told me that since the storms on Saturday, that McDonalds has been having issues with their power source and generators. They were still 'officially' open 'til midnight every night, but the lights at the drive thru, the drive thru sign, etc. were randomly going on and off. So yes..on behalf of her..I am reminding you that McDonalds on 250 is open 'til midnight. Get your Shrek Happy Meals! :)
Got back on the Turnpike WEST towards Rossford and did NOT realzie that it is reduced to one lane due to construction from Bellevue 'til almost Woodville. The one lane that was open is covered in potholes and very unsafe ( I 'think' they are re-paving?). 50 MPH 'means' 50 MPH. Two cars were pulled over by State Highway Patrol between this stretch of construction around 11pm-11:30pm.
Arrived home at midnight'ish. YAWN!
Ever since I moved I've been meaning to try a trip on the turnpike to see if that's faster for me than Rt. 2. Didn't know about the construction, so I'll probably avoid it now.

Just stay away from the cadmium filled Shrek collector glasses. ;)
Yeah, I feel as if the traffic was a lot worse WEST bound, than EAST bound. WEST bound was 'very' slow even at 11pm at night.
The only problem with Rte 2 @ night is that it is essentially a 'country road' with lots of turns, it's not well-lit, and is one of the top rated roads in Ohio for deaths & accidents. That being said, it's rather nice during the "day!" :) Coming from Toledo- and if you have the time...I'd suggest the Lake Erie Circle Tour- Route 2 to Route 163 to Sandusky..it's some back country roads, but also takes you along the Lake.
And yes- every McDonalds I've been too has huge signs plastered everywhere that they are strangely "sold out" of the collectors glasses. Ha! Damn it...I want my Gingy glass.
