Looks like we have an update from Rob Decker.

I have to add, That article is REALLY intresting. I'm really excited about the theming part of the ride. He mentioned that its still being designed, They will have Special Affects and lighting. I cant wait to see the finished product.

Oh my. . .NBC's Must See TV Thursday was absolutely amazing. . . I am speechless!

I'm with you there, Live E...

Interesting to hear some things:

-photo will apparently be at launch and finish with photos of both on one purchase

-food stand located beneath the "grandstands"

-alternating colors on launch accentuate speed (as I previously suspected/mentioned)

MANTIS ROCKS 2002 & 2003

The great thing about that entry is that it settles some uncertainties here (such as will there be grandstands, where will the photos be) and confirms some things as well (alternating track to accentuate speed, etc). It was also very interesting to read about how they designed the station.

Wow that was a very informative article. I wonder if some things are purposely not going to be mentioned to shock us. Maybe like smoke off the cars as they launch with a tire peel-out sound.

Hehe, speaking as a soon to be architect (graduation in June, from Univ. of Cincinnati, where Rob Decker went) he inclueded what we call "Archispeak" or sentences that sound good, but really don't mean much. Specifically, I'm referring to the paragraph that starts out with

"The cantilevered sections..."

If I said that to my professor, i'd be summarily failed. It's a hard game to play....he (or I) can't justify the design by saying, "It looks really cool" so he has to construct an elaborate description to say the same thing. Bull**** is what it's called, and that's half the architect's game. Good interview wiht him, and I'd like to work for him someday.;

Actually it has already been mentioned that there will be a tire peel-out sound effect of some kind.
Yeah, it was an interesting entry. It also confirms the suspicion of an authentic dragster vehicle by the ride.

I find it interesting that virtually no one has complained about the ride since the details of the ride were announced...where have all the nay sayers gone? :)

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of Dragster, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

Two Photos for one purchase?!! Thats a good deal, if the price is the same as the other On Ride Photos.

So when one train is unloading, one is loading and another is launching. What about the other three trains? One is on the brakes maybe, one is on the tophat, and the last is...? I still don't get the process!

2 Trains in the Station, 2 Trains Unloading, 1 Running the Cycle, 1 In Ready to Launch

I wonder where the "infield tunnel" will be located? I wish most of the queuing was like an air conditioned tunnel with a themed soundtrack and trivia panel! Well maybe not a soundtrack or trivia panel; just give us air conditioning and good music and we will all be happy!
I find it interesting that the intensity of the theming seems to have grown recently, with parts of it still being developed. I find it hard to imagine that my theming 'suggestions' five months ago in this thread could have had any influence, but from this article it sounds like that could be a possibility.

Anyone know who at CP came up with the 'giant Christmas tree' idea (or the grandstands for that matter), and do they read this message board? :)

CP's really going all out on this ride, an infield tunnel with a soundtrack plus facts about dragsters and coasters, a grandstand with a new snack bar, winners' circle, and a real CP dragster photo opportunity!

Halo, im sure most of the planning for this ride was completed long before five months ago. Many of the people who work at CP visit this site.
This May be dumb but, whats a winners circle?
Were the winner of a race goes to celebrate. But for the rides case, the exit area.

Rob Decker himself came up with the giant Christmas tree idea. Not sure about the grandstands, but I wouldn't be surprised if he thought of that, too.

The grandstand can be seen in the artist's rendering, so it was definitely planned before the announcement. I'm not surprised they are putting a concession stand under it.

I've see the combo photos he's talked about before, and think that will be a great feature.

I'm wondering if the "tunnel" he's talking about has anything to do with the white building that is currently under the launch track as can be seen in the power tower cam.
