announcement...

Do you think Cedar Point will wait for SFWOA to announce their plans for 2002, or vice versa??  If that's the case, neither will ever be announced!  :-0
I think the general gist is that something REALLY big is gonna happen since CP crapped out on us this year and didn't give us a new ride, but they want to keep it under wraps until the last possible second (that last possible second being when a humongous mob of angry pointers with flaming torches and pitchforks arrive at the main gate)

crapped out on us? Some of you guys and gals have NO gratitude for what that park does for us! Makes me sick!

Matt...Theres more to your statement than you think!

Cedar Point doesn't wait for anybody.  They will make their announcement when they know it will not make people "wait till next year" to visit the park.  When they annouce won't be based on when SFWOA announces their bordem(probably a clone anyway)

Hypersonic XLC- 17 seconds of ride....only 1.8 of which are fun
I have to agree with you, Mr. Spartan! Matt, I don't think the park "crapped out" on us at all this year. Given that the park has a pattern of big rides every other year, I can't believe that anyone was expecting something huge to be the main attraction in 2001. With that said, I think the park gave us a huge surprise with Lighthouse Point, an outstanding camping/ overnight facility that has turned the park into a "destination" resort. The park, did, however surprise a great number of us when VertiGO was announced, and that will be the big ride for 2001.

As for 2002, I would expect the announcement to be made later in the season, so as to avoid people attending next year instead of this year..while attendance so far this year in down.

Whatever the park has planned, some people will not be happy...that is just the sad fact when you get a lot of people together on one issue.

Mikey :)

Hmmm .... "under wraps", eh?
I have to agree with you guys. I'm sure Cedar Point has known the date for quite some time now when they will be announcing next year's addition. SFWOA and many other parks that are trying to outdo CP with their rides severly lack in the cleanliness, friendliness, and concern for the health and happiness of their guests that CP is famous for. Cedar Point does not want to say *We're better than SFWOA*. They will announce their ride at a time that is in the best interest of the park, without being rude and rubbing it in other parks' faces.
Mr. Spartan, is there more to his original post or his signature, "I stay crunchy... even in milk"? ;)

As for 2002, I too think they will wait as long as possible to release the 2002 plans, major or not.

Cedar Point 2002. Guessing is great, but knowing is better.

Well said, Mikey!  CP hasn't made 2 big rides in a row in the last ten years, what made you think that they would make one in 2001?  Besides VertiGO, Chaos was the last ride to go in on an "odd" year....raptor in 1994, Mantis in 1996, Power Tower in 1998, and Millennium Force in 2000.  Just wait for next year, I have a feeling they're not gonna settle for a 20 sec. TA2K, they'le get a real coaster.

SFWOA doesn't affect CP much, it's just not of the same calibur.  PLUS.... you must remember that they already know what and where the next ride will be, they're just dont want to mess up ticket sales for this year.  just wait, we'll all know soon.

I don't know CP4LIFE...I'm be more than happy for them to settle for the 20 second TA2K :)

yes spewey, "under wraps", as in "we could tell you, but then we'd have to send you to SFWOA."

'Gravity knows no force like Millennium Force.'
Actually, in 1993-94 they put in 2 big rides...Snake River Falls and Raptor...one of them just isn't a coaster. :)

Anyway, I think they put in SRF to compensate for the loss of Mill Race the year later, but that's just my opinion...;)

If CP added another huge ride this year, I'd start worrying about the financial consequences involved.  I'm glad they "Crapped out on us" this year, or they'd end up in the same situation as Six Flags...one word...DEBT!!!  Cedar Point just opened the #1 coaster in the world, why not ride on it for a while? (pun intended)

The new "product" won't be released until later in the fall. It wouldn't make sense to announce it sooner when you're trying to encourage people to go this year and not wait until next. Attendance has been less than stellar, you know.

two thousand TWO....As I have mentioned before, Mr. Innes has said via email that an announcement will be made sometime in October.
Call me naive, but am I the only one here who think that Cedar Point will not be getting two coasters next year? I "hear" and "read" tons of stuff about people who swear that two coasters are coming to the park, but to me, it doesn't seem to be the park's style. While it would be great, I personally don't think it will happen. But, as Jeff says, we will have to wait until the fall.

Mikey :)

Kind of off subject, but was CP planning to wait until fall to announce MF and decided that they had to announce it early because the track arrived so quickly?  Or were they planning to announce it that early that whole time?  Because I know that there were pictures of the track on GTTP and SOTP before they even announced it.

As for this year and next, first of all there is no way that CP "crapped out on us" for 2001.  Not only do we get Lighthouse Point, which can already be claimed as a major success and a worthy addition, but we also get VertiGo, a ride that is "big" enough to take up the space of something like Power Tower (the only difference is its in Challenge Park and it didn't take long to build).

So from what I gather in this thread, it sure looks like October is when we should expect the 2002 announcement...
