All Wheels Extreme

Well, now that Camp Snoopy has been offical, we have finally found what they are going to use the aquatic stadium for. It's now going to host the All Wheels Extreme show with a BMX-style show for everyone.

I was wondering how you guys think of their new plan. I think it would be an intresting thing to see at Cedar Point. I don't think anything has been ever brought here like this, so it's really going to be something new.

I may be going out a limb, but here is my input after having thought about it for 30 seconds. BMX racing/tricks is/are fascinating to watch. However, performers are more injury susceptible in a show which requires trusting gravity. Many professional racers on the pro circuit suffer several inuries a summer. For this reason, I feel it will be difficult for Cedar Point to maintain a consistent, high quality show.

A 60 foot dive into a small pool of water never had any problems.

Disney seems to do well with it's Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show as well.

Not to mention I am sure they will wear saftey gear. In the ice show however, there is nothing between your head and the ice. Id say if they can do it just fine with the ice show, this will be no problem.

Oh yeah Ice at 10 to 15 MPH could do the same to your body as 45 to 60 MPH on a bike right into hard dirt or concrete. I fell on ice once, didnt hurt that bad but falling of a motorbike would hurt alot.

Its not going to have dirtbikes. Its going to be bmx bikes, rollerblades, and skateboards. I doubt injuries will be a problem, at least not a huge problem.

^^ - most of the hurt from falling off a motor bike comes from road-rash. You don't really get that on ice, but ice isn't soft either.

Well duh its not going to hurt as bad as falling off a dirtbike, but you can't compare because the show won't feature dirtbikes. You have missed the point I was trying to make.

Ice for an ice skating show is thicker and therefore "softer" than say for ice hockey where speed is important. They should play the Gear Daddies Zamboni song before the CP ice shows :)

It's too bad Evel Knievel died. He could have made a parking lot jump appearance at CP like he did "Kings Island 1975 - Jumps 14 Greyhound Busses" :)

It's a good idea for CP to try the All Wheels Extreme show. They say they want to get more kids away from video games etc and into the park so it's on the right marketing track. I never bothered to see the dive show although I don't mean to knock it at all. But I'd stop by to tape this one. I wonder where they're getting the performers.

I'm with everyone else. Injuries are sesceptible, but I think I'd rather be doing a backflip on a bicycle than diving from that 60 foot tower into that small pool. The performers know when to bail on a trick so that their bodies will be saved in case they fall. And as for going 45-60 mph... I'd just want to see how high they went out of the half pipe. ;)

Hey, anyone who has seen "Blades of Fury" knows that ice skating is very dangerous. ;)

I haven't seen that one, but Blades of Glory was pretty funny. ;)

Who knows, maybe we'll see Cedar Point on MTV's Scarred sometime in the near future.

^ Something generally like MTV or ESPN2 could be cool. The AVP Pro Beach volleyball tournament would be cool on the CP beach. I go to the event across from Kings Island at the ATP center every year. Logisitics are always a problem. But if they really want to do something like that it can happen. It's just a matter if it makes sense and who wants to do promote it. But yeah anything like that probably won't happen at CP.

It isn't the falls on ice that concern me. When you grab a skater by her feet, and swing her around while letting her head dip within mere inches of the ice, I'm pretty sure that is where the "danger" lies.

Every time I see that part of the show, it puts me on the edge of my seat.

^And THAT is what I was talking about. I too am on the edge of my seat during that part of the show, even though I have seen it numerous times during the summer. I guess its even worse when you know the two skaters doing it.

I actually met Fred and Melanie when I worked at the park. According to both of them, while the trick is both fascinating and challenging, there is never a risk of her head hitting the ice. They said it's sort of a smoke and mirrors trick. But they wouldn't tell me how they do it.

I would say that they were joking then. Because it can and does happen. I know of two times where it happened with the two that do the show now. Nothing to serious though.

If you just stop and think about it for a second, there is always the possibility of her hitting her head. He could lose his grip, balance, footing, etc. Its ice skating, not magic. Its right in front of your face, no smoke and mirrors.

I think more of what they were refering to is the fact that her head is not as close to the ice as it appears.
