ALERT: Approaching from the South...

I just learned the hard way today that OH-4 is CLOSED at OH-2. Apparently the bridge over OH-2 is being re-built.

According to OTIS, the blockage is scheduled to end on May 20. That's in time for the third weekend of the Cedar Point season.

Thanks for the warning, can you still get onto OH-2 from 4?

Less than 1 month till opening day!!

I drive RT 2 from 6 to 250. Was through there today to get pass. There were no overpasses being done. So it might have been another place then.

The detour is to get on Rt. 2 east, exit at Rt. 250, get back onto Rt 2 west, then exit at Rt 4. By the time you do that, of course, you might as well take Rt. 250 to the park. You can see a map of that here.

Thanks for the heads-up, folks.
Or heading north on Route 4, take a left on Bogart Rd., go about one half mile to Old Railroad and take a right. Then go about another half mile to Strub Rd. and take a right back to Route 4 and take a left. A lot quicker than the "Official" detour.

That's supposed to be a secret for the locals. ;)

From Northbound OH-4 you can get onto OH-2 East. I presume that from Southbound OH-4 you can get onto OH-2 West, though I was never on that side of the bridge.

Trust me, Jerry, it was the OH-4 overpass over OH-2 that was being worked on. OH-4 is open up to the OH-2 bridge; it's the bridge that is closed.

tambo has the best advice.

Route 250 is not affected , is it?
Clear this up for me guys....I'm coming from columbus taking SR 4 all the way up..is that affected or will i have to detour? :-)
You can take 4 all the way till 2, get on 2 and go to 250. Atleast I could yesterday when I got my pass.

I'm coming from the northwest (Detroit area) does anybody know if the big bridge project on I-280 backs up traffic alot? For the past few years it hasn't seem to be a big problem but since the site has been growing bigger and bigger is this something I should consider when heading to the park next month?

Traffic on 280 is moving very well thus far. Just watch out for those lethal curves in, around, and under the construction site. :-X

From here in Bellevue we took Rt. 269 then through Sandusky. Usually we take Rt.4 and it comes out about the same time. Thats the way (269) we took yesterday to get our pass.

^^Watch out for falling cranes as well.

My advice to anyone heading in from the West who normally take steh turnpike is to get off at the Fremont exit and head south the mile or so to US 6 and then take 6 all the way through downtown and to the park. Faster than 4 by a long shot anyway.

ODOT has no choice but to detour traffic from State Routes to other State Routes. This is to ensure that truck and other commercial traffic can be handled properly.

"Or heading north on Route 4, take a left on Bogart Rd., go about one half mile to Old Railroad and take a right. Then go about another half mile to Strub Rd. and take a right back to Route 4 and take a left. A lot quicker than the "Official" detour."

My advice would be to turn right from SR 4 onto Bogart Rd. Follow Bogart Rd east until you get to Columbus Ave. Turn left on Columbus Ave, and head north. Cross Perkins Ave and continue north to Scott St. Turn right onto Scott St and follow it east. It will turn into Fifth St. Continue east on Fifth St until it intersects with Causeway Drive, at a traffic light, no less. Turn left onto Causeway Drive, and head into the park. Avoid US 250 like the plague! The real secret is to avoid State Routes and big highways as much as possible, and act like a local. Of course, I was born & raised in Sandusky, so it comes pretty naturally for me.

Tank - that's probably the fastest route, except I would go down Campbell St. instead of Columbus Ave. You can take Campbell St. from Bogart Rd., it ends at Columbus Ave. and Scott St., and it'll save about 2 miles from taking Columbus Ave.

My original edit actually had them going Bogart-Campbell-Strub-Columbus-Scott-Fifth-Causeway, but I figured that it might be easier for out-of-towners to avoid all the twists & turns. Bogart to Columbus is a nice, easy, fairly straight shot. Campbell all the way to Scott Street is a good route, but can be a pain in the butt with several stops and some chances to make a wrong turn. Plus, Columbus Ave takes you past a couple of gas stations & convenience stores, for those last minute munchies, pop, film & smokes!
