Advice on where to stay?

I am wondering if it pays to stay at Breakers or is it ok to stay off site? I'd love some advice!! Thanks!!
I've stayed both on and off point and if you can afford the extra cost, staying on point is great. You can just walk between the park and your hotel room any time you want.

I would definatelly, if you have the money, stay at Breakers, or somewhere on the point. The convienence more than pays for itself. Only place i've stayed, and I don't think I'd want to stay anywhere else.
But, it's getting kind of late to make reservations, so I'd hurry if you haven't already.

I really like Breakers Express. It's very close to the park, a quick drive. Plus you can pick up some McDonalds on the way to the park if you don't mind eating crappy food. :) Just don't get the pancakes before you go coastering!

Express is cheaper and has the pool and hot tub. My favorite part is still looking at the Cedar Point skyline though...

Yea, Breakers Express is cheap, and convienantly (sp?) located. Even tho it isn't directly on the peninsula, it has to be at least, if not less than, 1 mile away from the park. A McDonald's is right across the street, and a pizza place is right next door. It has a huge hot tub, and a snoopy shaped pool, and the rooms and employees are nothing but courteous and clean. It's the only place I've stayed while at CP, and it's done me some good. I'd be willing to stay at maybe the Breakers or Lighthouse, but B.E. is just fine!

And the same benefits as Breakers. You get in the park early.

Does anyone else like to stay at Sandcastle? It's the only place I've ever stayed, and I love it especially being right on the beach and so close to Breakwater Cafe. It's also close to the Magnum gate... very important for those early morning and late night rides!

We stayed at Sandcastle last year. It was OK, but we weren't overly impressed.

Breakwater is one of the better restaurants, not counting Bay Harbor. Not as insanely packed as Friday's, but decent food and a full bar.

I'm not that impressed with Sandcastle either----the rooms there are in need of a refurb, IMO, and the services in the hotel itself are minimal at best. If Lighthouse Point is full, we'd stay in Sandcastle before Breakers, since the suites at Breakers cost an arm and a leg, and we *really* like suites, so it's a better value for us.

We're going to try BE for opening day---we're hoping it will meet our needs for the one-night visits early and late season reserving LP for the big multi-night stay in midsummer. It's much more affordable, and may fit the bill for what we need.

I know I said this on rrc a few months ago, but we stayed at Dusk 'til Dawn. Yeah, DON'T i repeat DO NOT stay there. It's cheap, yeah. But the biggest dive I've ever seen. They said they had a pool. Well there was a hole in the ground and that was it. Their "discount tickets" consisted of handing us a free can of pepsi over the counter. Anywhere but Dusk 'til Dawn.

The only thing other than CP that Steelers and Browns fans agree on

Hehe, another Dusk to Dawn story! We stayed there 3 years ago because it had what we wanted for our group - 4 beds. Well, all it took was one mold and spider-filled night there for us to check out immediately and go stay at a name brand hotel - Comfort Inn. The previous 2 years we've been staying at Breakers and the convenience of being inside the park and the views it offers are unmatched. Well worth the extra money.

I agree with that. If you can afford it, staying on point is the way to go.

What would you say are the nicest off point hotel/motels? Anyone stay at the Best Western? Also what are the best restaurants in the area? Thanks!
I stayed at the Best Western a few years ago. I thought it was a decent place to stay. The rooms were clean and they were not too expensive either. If you plan on eating breakfast at the hotel restaurant, you can expect a wait. It seems to be the closest "family style" restaurant to the point, so it picks up a lot of breakfast business.

Breakers Express all the way as far as off-Point hotels go.

With one exception: BE charges a cancellation fee of $25. Most other area hotels don't.
Yeah, I got burned by that fee last year, Brian. Not only was I disapointed that my plans changed, I got a $25 slap on the hands by my favorite place on Earth. Oh well, stuff happens.
