Advice for New Employees

In light of all the recent posts about making friends, making decisions, I thought that I would open this thread as a place for long-time CP employees could post and advice they had for new employees coming to CP this summer.
Don't waste all of your hard-earned money at Louie's. Only waste some of it there.
Hi! I'm new here. The best advice I can give anyone considering working at Cedar Point is this: STICK IT OUT! It is the greatest place on earth for about a month, then everyone starts wearing down--the combination of booze and 70 hour work weeks will do it. No matter how bad it gets, stick it out. 10 years from now, you'll be glad you did. I worked in foods at the Corral during two summers (1990-91). People I worked with ushered in my wedding. I've talked to 5 of them since Christmas! The frindships you can potentially make in a situation like that are WORTH IT! Stick it out. Plus, you'll have some excellent stories to tell when you're old and crotchitty.
I agree, STICK WITH IT!! It all depends on where you are working, but believe me, times will get very rough!! So rough to where you wish you never came. The memories and friends you will make is well worth it!
I disagree. I feel that if you aren't having fun, then it is probably because noone likes you. If that is the case, then leave for the benefit of everyone else. Never stick it out--quitters are admirable.
What is Louies?
Louis's is the after hours bar that alot of employees hang out to have a drink and relax after working a 14 hour day!!
Forensicating Geminazi, what exactly do you mean by that extremely negative comment?

ohhhhhhhh.....
I have some advice to give as well. Watch who you hang out with. One time someone asked to come to a "party" at someone's dorm. I decided not to go because I knew something was up. As it turned out, about 30 or 40 people got caught smoking dope. All were terminated. Had I gone to that I don't know where I'd be today.
I completely disagree with the quitting comment. Give it TIME! That's the key, transfer if you need to. I felt that no one liked me and had a horrible first week, but I stuck it out and my crew became like my family. It takes time to develop those friendships, but its worth it. Besides, only by sticking it out will you feel the pride, loyalty, and dedication that keeps so many of us returning year after year.

I agree, don't quit, having only worked one year at the point i know i don't have as info as some others would, but my first week was hard becuse i didn't know anyone, didn't know my way around the park, and had never run a cash register in my life. but soon enough i was hanging out after hours with my crew, knew the park like the back of my hand, and could run a register like it was nothing!!
From this experience I've learned you really should go out and try new things. Life is about the experiences and you shouldn't ever go through life without ever venturing out of your comfort zone. Whether it's bad or good times, you are able to learn so many more things about life, yourself, and others around you that you weren't even aware of before. But thats just my humble opinion.
