Advertising...why is it so bad?

Jeff, you don't think its stupid to only market to 10% of the people at the park?

Here is one of my favorite commercials for CP

I saw Soak City from Magnum before I had ever heard there WAS a Soak City. Anyone who rides Maggie or Gemini is going to know Challenge Park is there...and a whole lot of people ride Maggie and Gemini.

Between hotel guests and employees Challenge Park does pretty well. If you are only staying for a day I think it is valid to consider whether or not you would really leave the park in order to participate in any of those upcharge attractions. Most people would have a hard time getting on all of the coasters in a single day.

And, you can make a pretty good argument that you don't want to inundate Challenge Park with people. If you do that then the hotel guests are going to be pretty upset. I have no idea what the maximum capacity for C.P. is but I've been in there on employee nights and the place is packed to the point of not being any fun.

If Cedar Fair felt like they could squeeze more revenue out of that place and do it in a way that didn't diminish the experience for everyone...you can be sure they would have done so by now.

I know this is off topic, about another park and all, but I was driving in west virginia on vacation with my boyfriend on the highway and heard this very odd Kennywood radio commericial. It went like this, this guy was saying his opinion on the park, and it had all these random people laughing in the background. The guy was talking about how he liked to follow other people around the park, and that the other people he was really into were wearing hats that all looked the same and he loved to follow them around. At first, I had no idea what the heck was on the radio, until at the very end, they said: "come to kennywood!, near pittsburgh...blah blah blah.." We both were laughing really hard the whole time driving.

Hotel guests and employees make up a small minority of the ripcord and skyscraper customers. I can't say anything for the go karts but I imagine its mostly the same people.

Does ripcord/skyscraper have a lot of "downtime". In other words..are there long periods of time when no one is riding those attractions?

I thought the timeshare people were already doing that . . .

Actually, they were almost under the Corkscrews harassing guests last time I was there. :)

I like the new tagline "American Tradition". I think they should push that one. But then again that is not just their tagline either.

For you, John, I am officially setting my posting phaser on 'extreme stun'. ;)

Yeah, the "American tradition" approach will work really well in Ontario.

Of course it will. Canada is in North America. People from Nigeria are African just like people from South Africa are.

i dont get advertising where i live. so i cant really tell you what i think. from what i do see when i do visit is that its scarce. i dont see much advertising at all when im here. i just dont understand how companies dont like low attendance when they seem to not advertise

The only thing that surprises me es that on STO (Sports Time Ohio) I see more kennywood commerials than I do CP. STO airs all over Ohio and that is a sure way to get the parks name out there. Not many people watch Indians games anymore though. ;)

Yeah, ask Canadians if they consider themselves "American." Don't be naive.

Jeff is right. The American frontier theme of the back of the park is nice, and the red white and blue near Skyhawk looks good but I don't want to hear "American Tradition" as a new slogan. Hearing "Proud to be an American" blasting through the park all day is bad enough.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I think some Canadian singer should record "Thank God I'm a Canadian" or something just to get even. (If someone hasn't already!)
