A Random Housing Question

Do the dorms that employees have to pay $31 dollars and XX amount of cents for fill up fast? I am excited to go and all but I would rather die before staying in Cedars or the apartments. The dorms sound awesome.

They fill those up first, before the others...cause most people want to live there. Cedars doesn't open until end of may, so that forces people into the dorms even, so they do fill up fast. Some people do move to Cedars though when they open, so spots do open, but Commons dorms is most people's 1st choice.

If you process in before Cedars opens, there isn't much choice and you have to go to Commons.

And if you process in AFTER Cedars opens there will be new openings in Commons because people moved to Cedars.

Well, currently I am set to process in on June 1st but I am thinking of asking if it can be a little later than that. I just hope I find atleast one opening in the dorms, lol.

Last year I got to CP on June 6, and got into commons no problem...it was actually the ONLY place that had room for me.

I know this doesn't go with this post but I didn't want to start a new topic.

What housing do they use for the Sup seminar on the 22nd? How is it? Just trying to see if it's worth staying on-point or not.

There will ALWAYS be housing available.

If for whatever reason housing runs out due to an explosion or a unit gets condemed, have no fear. A cardboard box is a great alternative to housing. It's about on par to CP housing.

Indeed. The Cedars were bad in 1980 and I cannot imagine what they are like now. They smelled of urine, mold, old wood, dead spiders and dirty feet. They were hot and actually noisy. Remember what time the first rides start... Not good if you work late..

The commons apartments were quite new (not nice) in 1980. There were only two to a room then. Now I understand there are 3 or 4... 14 people sharing one or two bathrooms is not a pretty picture. If you leave anything of edible value in the refrig it will disapear quickly.

Is there only one bathroom/shower room per commons dorm or is there multiple locations. If there was only one it probably gets packed in the morning or is it spread out?

They are adaquate except for certain periods when a large number of people goto work at the same time. I've found sanitation to be poor.

Before I worked at CP, I tried not to use the bathrooms at the park. While living in the dorms and apartments, CP's bathrooms seemed great.

LOL so true! Camp Snoopy bathrooms are amazing! Anyways all kidding aside if your in the apartments and your bathroom is dirty, busy, unexcessable, ect. you could always just use the bathrooms in the dorms. They're just a short walk and the 1500's are always clean

Magnum,

I was there way before the commons' dorms were built. I have not heard very many comments about the commons' apartments. Bayside is easier to have a party in as they are the closest thing to an actual apartment at CP.

The Commons' Apartments were ok but rather spartan. It also depends quite abit on how much effort one wants to put into a temporary domicile. A couple of cheap posters, a boom box and a black light seem to make a huge difference. I imagine that the carpeting in the Commons' Apartments has not been changed since 1980 so a cheap throw rug might be in order. A box fan and a blanket can help.

The only way to keep the bathroom in your apartment clean is to "man up" and do it yourself.

Are the bathrooms like school locker rooms? something along those lines.

Can someone explain how the Cedars housing passes ANY building codes?

Those bags of cash going to the local government may explain the "Cedars"....

Or maybe "Historic Landmarks" are exempt..

Well.. they have Fire Sprinklers.. and we know they work(ed) due to constant drips and occaisional accidental and incidental discharges of the system...

I think the term best used would be "grandfathered in." As long as they don't spend any more money than is needed for ongoing maintenance... yet still, it seems like a disaster waiting to happen. I wonder what it costs to insure with all those people living in it.

Live E,

I can remember very distinctly my first time walking into the Cedars.. I thought to myself, "this is rustic" as I waited in line to get my mail and cash a check. And of course there is the omnipresent smell of fresh urine, dirty feet, moldy wood, dirty carpets, dripping water, plain old body odor, and rotting food.

For a 20 year old college sophmore it was kind of like "camping". Except you have a mattress with rubber sheets.
