A quick question about Ohio Route 2

Im coming from Flint and I just wanted to know if Ohio Route 2 is an expressway or is it a sideroad? If it is a sideroad I would like to avoid it as travel may be slower. My question really is should I take I-280 south to 80/90 east then to 250 north to Cedar Point or is Ohio Route 2 a decent shorthcut over to 250?
Route 2 is one lane in each direction for about 30 miles. However, avoid I-280 at all costs. There is major reconstruction going on and a drawbridge which can cause huge delays. I would suggest you take I-75 all the way to 80/90 east to Route 4 North. I believe that this is the quickest way to go.

I would have to disagree. Route 2 is an ok way to go. Sure its 2 lanes but traffic seems to move pretty well on it.. I've never really been stuck by anyone going really slow.

280 sucks, though... But you're also only on it for a handful of miles though. The route that has been suggested on this board is 23 south to 475 east to 75north to 280 south to route 2 to 250. Going from Lansing to the Point it takes me approx. 3 hours.

Hope this Helps

I've found that there's a minimal difference between taking Rt 2 or the Turnpike from the west. The key is avoiding 250 and all it's traffic lights. Take Rt 4 north into Sandusky and follow the signs to the park.

Rt. 2 is fine. My father-in-law made that drive every day and preferred it over the Turnpike (unless it snowed). You will be fine on it and I agree with taking Rt. 4 in instead of 250.
I've always preferred Route 2, it seems to be faster, but maybe that's just me. It just seems like a nicer drive. I took that when I lived in the Detroit area: Rt 2 and I think we took 6 into town to CP. Now that I'm in Kalamazoo, it's easier to take the toll road in, though I still would rather go Rt 2.
Does anyone know if the construction on the drawbridge is a summer long thing? Also, does 75 south go all the way to the Ohio turnpike?
FIRST of all: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/dist2/construction.htm

The construction on 23 south to 475 is MUCH worse than anything you will encounter on 280.

75 to the turnpike will work, 280 to the turnpike will work (just check the link above which is updated every Friday) to see any changes in the 280 construction, and 280 to route 2 (my favorite route) will work as well.

Personally, I prefer route 2 to the turnpike...you have to drive further south and come north again...and pay for the priviledge on top of it. Route 2 is 4 lanes until outside of Oregon, then becomes 2 lanes for about 30 miles, then becomes a freeway.

I take the route 6 exit and avoid 250.

280 isn't bad early in the morning when there is no traffic. However, I would also suggest 75 to the turnpike. From what I understand, there is still construction on Rt. 2 by the power plant that can cause some headaches. Plus, any time I've taken 2, I get stuck behind a line of slow moving trucks that I can't pass, so I prefer the turnpike. And yes, avoid 250 like the plague.

There is no way to go through Toledo to CP without encountering construction. Turnpike construction is only between the 75 and 280 exits right now, but you go through construction on 280 to avoid the turnpike construction. Rt. 2 has construction, plus you have to go through 280 to get to it. It's a bit of a mess right now.

OldCPer, that is the exact same way I go coming from Taylor. I've tried every other way and found this to definately be the fastest. Not to mention, it is a nice, enjoyable drive.

Edit: Chris, I have taken Rte. 2 every trip this year (every weekend since opening day) and have not once encountered constuction on it.

Taken rt. 2 to CP and back to Detroit twice this year and I don't remember any construction. The construction on 280 doesn't slow you down much, unless the drawbridge were up then you are probably screwed. I always take 6 into Sandusky and just follow the signs from there. It works great for me.

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

Actually, the fastest way IMO hasn't been listed here yet. Get off on woodville road if your taking 280. your going to be on it for a while. Once your past Millbury (where I live) and Genoa, make a left onto SR 163 at the light by a restuaraunt called Ernesto's. Stay on 163 all the way through Oak Harbor and Lacarne until it hooks on to the better part of route 2 (the part thats actaully a highway). I ussually get of at the frist exit (6 I beleive) rather than driving all the way to 250. This exit takes you by Margarittaville, Downtown Sandusky etc all the way to the Causeway. I can ussually make it to the park in under an hour, but it should be shorter for you from my area. ;) Michigan Drivers...;)

"Wheres the Callahan factory?!?!?"

I can also confirm there is no construction on Route 2 having driven it twice already this season. I'm going tomorrow as well. Route 2 also allows me to avoid half of the 280 construction between 75 and the turnpike.

I've never been behind a truck going less than 60 mph on the two lane portion of 2 (which IS the speed limit, btw), and I've rarely gotten stuck behind a truck to begin with. Generally I can tool along at 65 mph. Besides, the McDonald's in Oregon is the halfway point potty and coffee stop *GRIN*

Ejector205, I don't know if it's the fastest way but it sure is the scenic route especially if you take 6 instead of 4 or 250. I've always considered 6 the slowest way in.

Stop Still Dragster 3...2...1... No !! ;)

Im from flint too :) i go to the point about 8-10 times per season.... I found that the best and quickest way is to take 23 south to 80/90, then go east till you see the cp signs.... only takes about 3 1/2 hours......

Also, forgot to add that contrary to what people say, constuction on 23 is NOT bad at all, sure its down to one lane in one area for about 10 miles, but if you are driving on it in the morning, like i usually do, traffic flows very smoothly, and no slowdowns.... ive been to the point 3 times already this season, and havent had a slowdown yet.
Shadow... * * * ATTENTION * * *

Unless you LIKE the casual scenic route...the following is your best bet.

Take 75 South to 80/90 East ............ 80/90 East to Route 4 North (turn left) ............ 4 North to (don't follow the "Cedar Point this way" signs...proceed over Route 2's bridge) Perkins St. (turn right), (don't follow the "Cedar Point this way" sign...turn right) ............ Perkins St. to Pipe St. (turn left) ............ Pipe St. to Route 6 (turn left)

Stay in the right hand lane and look for the signs. At this point...you are just about there!

Have a safe trip, and most of all; have a wonderful day at Cedar Point's Rockin' Roller Coast!!!

Tips: *On 80/90 you can usually travel at 70 mph, vs. Route 2's 55 mph. *CP is 1 hr 20 min from Toledo driven following these directions. *$1.70 Exiting toll each way.

Trust me on these directions...I'm a perfectionist (hate it), and travel this route every week!

I got to the Point from Flint in 2 1/2 hours with stopping one time with THESE directions below

US 23 south to 475 east

475 east to I-75 north

I-75 north to I-280 south

I-280 south to Ohio Route 2

Turn off of the exit so that you are going EAST on 2 instead of west!

Take 2 east all the way to route 6 and follow the signs to the point.

Thanks here to the board for these good directions, I recommend them to anyone driving in from flint

I'm going tomorrow and I'm gonna take those exact directions, Shadow. There is an exit on OH-2 for Route 6, right? And then you take Route 6 all the way until you make the left onto the causeway? Sounds like a pretty good plan. 2 1/2 hours...wow...that's much quicker than the turnpike.

Shadow, how much of a delay did you encounter on I-280? Was it bad at all?
