A Great Columbus Day Weekend

Two of us drove up from Atlanta Friday morning to stay the weekend. My friend had not been on a rollercoaster in 14 years, so it was very interesting for him to say the least. We got caught in some annoying traffic in Cincinatti which put us behind a bit, but not too bad.

We got to the park around 7:30 and saw a long line for Raptor so we went over to Wicked Twister for his first ride. I had not done it at night yet, and it was alright, although I prefer it in the daytime when you can see out over the water and enjoy the view. We then headed over to Dragster and rode the front which is always incredible. I was worried that he wouldn't do it once he saw it, but he was totally into it! We did a few other rides and ended up on MF around 10:30. We rode the back row and then headed back to Dragster to complete the night.

And then there was Saturday... We chose to imbibe in some libations which made for a very fun day. Despite the long lines for some of the rides, we had a great time. At one point, we snuck through the fog in Frontier Town to get to MF. For some reason, Security was turning people around and making them walk back toward Mean Streak. We were on a mission and were not to be derailed. We got over there and waited for about an hour to ride MF, then headed back to Dragster for our last ride of the day.

Sunday was much better and WAY less crowded. We started with a couple of rides on Magnum before making our way around the park. We had a great front row ride on MF, despite the annoying person who decided to unlatch his seatbelt on the way out of the station. I was watching him as it left and wondered what the hell he was doing. They stopped the train on the hill and it was down for at least 30 minutes while they dealt with the situation. It was REALLY annoying. Eventually we got on and had one of the best rides I've had on MF.

We ended up back over at Dragster, and my friend decided to 'sit this one out', so I waited by myself and ended up riding with this girl that had never been on Dragster before. We did the front row and she was totally freaking out. It was great! :) My friend and I had Freeway stamps for Dragster and MF an hour later so we got right back in the line to ride Dragster again before heading over to MF. After we got off of MF, it was almost closing time. I told my friend that I really wanted to ride Dragster for the last ride of the night, but he wasn't into it. He decided to ride Magnum while I rode Dragster.

I got in line for the front row for Dragster and ended up sitting next to this kid who was also from Atlanta and drove up on Friday. How bizarre! I thought we were the only ones crazy enough to drive for 11 hours, haha. He had never been on the front row and he loved it. We got off right before 10 so I ran around to get back in line. I got one last ride before calling it a night. My friend ended up getting 6 rides on Magnum while I rode Dragster. Nice!

All in all it was a fantastic weekend. We got to ride everything that I wanted sans the MF front row at night. Next time, it has to happen.

The count (as I recall it, haha):

Dragster - 7
MF - 4
Magnum - 6
Wicked Twister - 4
Raptor - 2
Power Tower - 2 (one up, one down)
Disaster Transport - 1
Gemini - 3
Mantis - 1
Mean Streak - 1
Mine Ride - 1
Wildcat - 1
Blue Streak - 1

That was our weekend. Hope everyone had as much fun as we did. :)

By the way, the music was cracking us up the whole time. It took me off guard when we heard 'The Devil went down to Georgia' walking through CP, haha!

is the one-way frontier town deal just at night when the fog is going, or is it set up like that all day?

Its just at night when the Fright-Zone is in operation. There are just way too many people on Saturday night for them to get away with a two-way Fright-Zone. It was open at both ends on Friday, and I'm guessing Carn-evil is the same way even though we didn't go through on Friday, we were by it on Saturday and found that the "Barker" at one end was telling people to go to the entrance.

7 times on TTD! Wow! On top of that It most likely wasn't down much eather. Lucky boy.

101 on Magnum and counting...

1. What an idiot to unlatch the MF seatbelt.

2. The Fright Zone and CarnEvil went with two-way traffic when I was there a couple Saturdays ago (Sept. 25). Confusing why they did it then and not now...

1. Happens about once a week on MF.

2. I believe the paths were turned one-way in anticipation of especially large crowds this weekend (Columbus Day weekend last year saw 50,000+ guests on Saturday). The park went so far as to make employees park in the Soak City lot on Saturday. It was realized that the one-way setup was not needed around 10pm and the paths were returned to their normal status.

Yeah, even when it went down, it wasn't down for long which was nice. I was happy with my rides! :)

Makes sense about the one-way Fright Zone now that I think about it. There didn't seem to be any clear way of informing people about what was going on, but whatever... ;)

Wow, that's a lot of suicidal parkgoers, if you add it up...
