A first trip to the Point

It's taken a while to recover from our fast paced trip to Ohio about 2 weeks ago, but I'm glad to say that hitting the Point was definitely the best. We did the 3 "majors" in the state including PKI and newly renamed Six Flags Ohio (which we really hated).

The first coaster we did was MF which we got in line for just after 9:00. After waiting through the line our group (including my wife and another couple) reached the front and to our delight were cut off at the front of the line for the next train. As we all know, that means 2 of us got the front seat for our first ride!! Since my wife usually closes her eyes, I took one seat while our friend Dan took the other (our wives seated directly behind us). That first drop is so incredibly mind blowing! At first, I kept my hands on the bar, but about halfway down the hill my arms were straight up and that incredible rush hit me. The airtime on the second hill took my breath away and I was amazed at how smooth the whole ride was.

I have a lot more to tell about our first trip, but for now, I'm going to leave it with those thoughts on MF.

I know this is not about the topic, but why did you hate Six Flags Ohio. Was it just plain bad, or was there a certain reason?

I've been doing the theme park thing for several years (even worked at Disney for 9 years, Universal/IOA for 1). I've been to many different parks and the way that this one appeared to be run was just not right. There were no wait signs for any of the rides so when you saw a long line you could only guess. Ride operators didn't appear to be trained well as their load times were horrid. The park was absolutely TRASHED in a matter of hours (restrooms looked like what you'd find at a small park, pretty nasty). Obviously these were the same ones from Geauga Lake and SF never even attempted to upgrade or fix them. Superman UE was ok at best (one train makes for long waits unless you do it first, ride was less than thrilling). Didn't do Batman (we have Kraken down here in Orlando) due to the really long lines. Villain was just plain not fun in my book. I don't mind rough if I'm enjoying it (Beast), but when it's been a bad day...

The walkways are also just too small to handle the crowds, it was a bottleneck everywhere we went. With the size of this park one would think they'd do a controlled access. Oh well, live and learn. I'll be heading back to Cedar Point in a couple years (our crew have already deemed it a necessity), until then I'll just remember the good times at CP and try to block out the nightmares of SFO.
Do you live in orlando? if you do where. Im just wondering because I live in orlando. I got an annual pass to Sea World, pretty cool. In my opinion Kraken is the best, rode 17 times so far. Well if you do live in orlando, how much did the trip cost. Im planning a trip sorta like that. Im gonna try to hit SF Georgia, Kings Dominion, and my favorite Cedar Point.

I live up in Tavares in Lake County. It takes about an hour to get to any of the parks in our area (BGT,IOA,SW,WDW). As for our trip, we had to plan it 2 weeks before we went due to our cruise getting cancelled. Originally it was to include Hershey, BGW,PKD, and Kennywood as well (a long 2 1/2 week thing). Due to time restraints, we cut it to 1 1/2 weeks. We flew into Cincinnati then rented an SUV for 10 days. We stayed at Hampton Inns (the official hotel for us) and 3 nights at Breaker's Express. The Express I do not recommend AT ALL!! For the price you pay, yeah you're close to the park, but it just really wasn't that good. I'd recommend staying at the Radisson across the street if you have the extra bucks, probably a better night's sleep. Here's a rough breakdown of costs:

Flight $250 round trip from MCO
Hotels average $100 a night, 9 nights
Parks : PKI $50 for 2 days (special deal)
CP $55 for 2 days (on-line deal)
SFO $20 for one day (AAA deal)
Then you have your usual postcards, shirts, shotglasses (my personal collection item), on-ride photos, etc.
