a few questions from one of many new people this y

these are a few of the many questions i have that i have been trying to figure out before i show up on sunday:
1.) what exactly is a "ride host"
2.) if i'm getting dropped off there, am i going to have to lug all my stuff around with me while i do all the processing and drug testing and all that fun stuff?
3.)what should and shouldn't i bring?
4.)is there really as much partying as i've heard?
5.)any other advice would be greatly appreciated...

1. A Ride host is any employee that operates rides or assists guests on the rides. all ride ops are ride hosts (it just sounds nice lol) a host is the proper term to use when dealing with a guest

2. If you are just DROPPED off then yes you will have to "lug" your stuff all around.

3. Travel and pack light, either your roomies will already have the room packed or else they will when you get there. (less stuff = less stuff to be stolen)

4. Partying is as frequent as you like, i would suggest pacing yourself and dont go all out. you will have fun at work and being hungover is not only no fun it is dangerous

5. Dont come expecting anything, treat it like a new experience that is only what you make of it. If you expect the worst, then you will recieve it....if you expect and make it the best then youll have the summer of your life. Perception is 100% mental and is entirely controlled by you....

(1) A ride host/ess is an employee who works on a ride (you're a ride host for Mantis, I see by your sig).

(2) See if the person who is dropping you off can wait at least until you check into Housing before leaving you with all your things. The park is HUGE and you don't want to try carrying all your junk around; it just won't happen.

(3) Bring clothes for a variety of types of weather (rain/super hot/super cold), as well as your pillow, alarm clock, wristwatch, sunglasses, and anything else you want. Don't forget swim clothes as you'll want to spend time at the beach and Soak City when it gets warmer out. Bring some money so that you can eat your first week before you get your first paycheck. Be wary of bringing expensive electronics, as these things have a way of randomly disappearing in Cedar Point housing. I suggest bringing a small, lockable metal toolbox that you can chain to your bedframe and use as a safe for your valuables.

(4) It definitely depends on who you live with if the partying will take place in your home. Let's just say, if you want to party, it's not a problem finding a place to do so. If you don't like partying with alcohol (and many people don't), there are plenty of fun alternatives available as well.

(5) Read back to past threads on this site. You will find a wealth of information on anything you can possibly think of.

Have a great summer!

"The greatest leaders don't take credit for their actions; they don't have to."

Hopefully I can answer as many questions as I can... LOL! I'm new this year too, so I may not be able to get all of the answers right.

1: Here's the complete description of "ride host" directly off of the Cedar Point's Employee section of their website:

DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of one or more of Cedar Point's rides. Most positions involve working outdoors the entire shift in all weather conditions. Hosts work directly with the public. Hosts perform the duties of all assigned positions including assisting guests as they enter and exit, operating controls, watching the ride, communicating safety instructions to guests, cleaning the entire ride area and occasionally assisting guests off the ride using stairs and/or ladders.

2: That's something that I have been wondering as well... I don't know for sure if my ride is going to tag along and stay at the park.

3: Some tips that I have gotten from talking to people (and the Park Ops people as well!) Basically bring all the essentials you would need to live in a college dorm. So that would mean, pillows and stuff for your bed, shower/shaving/grooming/personal appearance items, most certainly clothes (and if you are arriving in April or May, bring something warm to wear), an alarm clock is probably the most important item you'll need (it is for myself!), anything else that you deem fit (try not to bring valuables), and lastly, all of the paperwork that you need to process in which would be: the yellow copy of your employment agreement, your social security card, and your birth certificate. If there is anything else that anyone else thinks should be on this list, add it on!

3: From what I've heard, most of the partying happens at Louie's. I really haven't asked or heard about what goes on in the dorms. As for myself, I'll have to keep all of the fun to a minimum, otherwise I'll start slacking on the job, and that won't be good for anyone.

5: HAVE FUN! Enjoy your job! Meet friends! Hey, I can hardly wait until May 17th to process in!!

i am very excited to be working on the mantis this year, and hope to have a lot of fun. but i'm still nervous about whether or not it will be as great as i am hoping it will be, i mean i am opptimistic about the whole thing, but there's always the voice in the back of the head with the whole "what if's" so now i am just counting down and waiting, and hopefully i'll have the best summer of my life as i'm planning.

Chill out. It's a fun summer job. If you get too uptight about it chances are you're not gonna have a great time because you'll be too busy being worried.

I didn't have my birth certificate last year, and I still was able to process in. They didn't ask for it.

I hope they don't ask for it this year either. I actually don't know where the hell it is! I've looked and looked and can't find it! I got a social security card though, and the yellow copy of my contract.

i cant find my birth certificate either... or my sscard for that matter. Thank god for passports, they override everything.

I think I had to show my drivers licence...and that was it..along with my copy of the contract and went to work slapping nasty pizzas together
My information that they sent me never said anything about bringing a birth certificate or ss-card when I process in...but I already sent that stuff in by the mail. Am I to assume that they don't need it all over again because they already have it?

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

It just standard for any job you first start... they need your ss card and birthcertificate. Or anything else from list A and B.
