A bunch of little Q's

Ok, I have a few questions for you insiders. 1) Why do they so often only run 1 of the Gemini trains? (It's such a disappointment as it is really only a blast when you race the other train). 2) How does the park attract such diversity in the nationalities of it's employees? 3) Is it true Jim Carey was there 2 years ago? (We thought we saw him). 4) Why do they keep that dreadful "Bon Air" section of the Breakers open & not remodel it? (There are cheaper alternatives for the budget minded...Breakers Express etc.) 5) Is Sponge Bob & crew going to be added to the characters this year or is the park just keeping with Peanuts only. (Hopefully)

Thanks to anyone that may be able to comment on any of these!

Well there is some information that we are not obligated nor allowed to give out to the public. I would email Cedar Point directly and ask them, contrary to popular belief we don't know everything that goes on.

1) They don't always do that. I assume it's based on capacity, although I was there one day this year when Gemini went down for mechanical reasons and then later in the day they just had one side running.

5) I hightly doubt there will not be any new characters this year. They only have licensing for the Nickelodian Characters for a few years. To my knowledge they have not made any decisions as to wether or not they will extend that licensing. I doubt they'll add it to any other parks until they know if they want to extend the contract. Also, the contract may not extend to parks outside the original Paramount chain.

<edit for clarification>
The day gemini went down for mechanical reasons, they reopened later with just one side running even though it was the busiest day I've ever been at the park. Most rides including Gemini had full Queue Lines.

2.) No matter what nationality you are, you still have to make money.

4.) Old charm, perhaps?

5.) I hope we'll only be seeing PEANUTS characters at Cedar Point...

Well I'll answer #1 :)

It depends on SO many factors. Attendance of the park, cold temperatures, how high the winds are and where they are blowing from, the level of staffing of rides. Most of the time there are not enough guests riding to warrant running both sides. People don't realize a ride like that, where the operator controls all brakes (trim and station). makes a huge diff if you send a light train to the brakes that are set for a heavy train. We don't like when that happens, and thank God, it never happened on my watch! ;)

Ride Op '02-'07

Gemini is nothing anymore now that the 3rd trains are gone. C sets were not pretty. Of course I agree with the improperly adjusted brake portion. Then again, I would rather see the brakes adjusted to a too high of a braking force than not enough. The most painfull experience I had was when I test rode Wildcat in the morning and the person at unload let the pass the unload brake. I traveled at a slow 5 MPH or so and then slamed into the car on the idle wheel. I didn't care about it, and it is probably of no suprise that the person later got fired for doing something stupid. It doesn't seem like it would hurt at 5 MPH but it is an extreme shock. I can't imagine what it felt like to be on say Superman Ride of Steel at SFNE when it slammed into the train in the load platform at a much higher speed.

Thanks for all your input so far. I def. agree I only want Peanuts there. Other stuff comes & goes, but Snoopy's here to stay. Matthew, I see about the brakes...makes sense even though I don't understand the brake system. DBCP, of course #2, it's just that it's the most diverse place I have ever seen. "Not that there's anything wrong with that!" (Seinfeld joke) As for Old Charm, #4, def. nothing charming in that area. It's an embarrassment to the wonderful charm of the rest of the resort which I love. Thanks though :)

I am assuming noone could comment on the Jim Carey thing... if he was there ;)

2) How does the park attract such diversity in the nationalities of it's employees?

They have a lot of positions that they need filled that they can't fill with americans. They turn to job fairs around the world to fill in the rest of the positions. How Cedar Point does it is beyond me.

3) Is it true Jim Carey was there 2 years ago? (We thought we saw him).

To the best of my knowledge, no. Word gets around when high profile people come to the park and I've not heard of him coming.

4) Why do they keep that dreadful "Bon Air" section of the Breakers open & not remodel it? (There are cheaper alternatives for the budget minded...Breakers Express etc.)

That costs money and a lot of it. Also Breakers Express is not within walking distance of the park. I'm sure they have thought about it but directed their limited resources elsewhere.

5) Is Sponge Bob & crew going to be added to the characters this year or is the park just keeping with Peanuts only. (Hopefully)

This really depends on what the parks want to do, and what they can do with licensing. I doubt that they have figured this out so it's in the TBA catagory.

About Gemini I dont got a clue to that one.
