Okay, so I took my interviews, got my schedule for processing in and all that. Everything is set and good. But I can't help but feel really nervous about the whole thing. This will be my first year and also my first time living away from home for so long. Oh, and this is also my first (paying) job ever. I'm sure I'll have a blast, but my nervousness is kicking in hard. And I have a few questions:
-How long is the average work day? I'm guessing around 10 hours, but I want to make sure. Of course I'm fine with a little more or less.
-How much money would you recommend bringing? I noticed that pay is bi-weekly. How much should I bring to live off until my first paycheck?
-Is the WiFi any good in the rec center? I don't have a laptop and I still would like to keep in touch with friends back home and keep up on current events. :P
-How much time do you get off and what would you normally do? I don't live near the area so I don't know what's around. What stores are around for shopping? How's the beach? And is there a movie theater because I still want to catch those summer blockbusters. :P
I realize I could've asked most of these in the interview, but I got so caught up in the moment and got so excited that it all slipped my mind. I can't wait to start working, but at the same time I'm really nervous... Is that weird?
Hi! It's ok to be nervous, I was my first year, I almost chickened out and didn't process in. I'm so glad I did, because it is the best job I've ever had. The typical shift can vary, depending on the department you work in. I'm in merchandise, and we have a few shifts such as....open to 3PM and 3 to close. There's a mid shift too, like 11AM to 8PM. When I was in sweeps, you could work open to 1:30, then 1:30 to close. But you're pretty much right, about 10 hours a day is average. 48 hours a week is minimum and 6 days a week is normal. As far as money to bring, at least $200, cause you'll be paying for your own food, but they have a great employee cafeteria, with very reasonable prices. Plan on about 3 weeks before your first paycheck. As far as wifi in the dorms, I've heard it's ok, but I don't live on point, so I can't give much info on that. If you're driving your own car, there's plenty to see and do. The Sandusky Mall on Rt 250, Target, Old Navy, and the movie theaters are all there in the one location. Walmart is just down the road. Now if you're not bringing your own car, CP has an employee bus that will take you to these locations, you'll have to check the bus schedule for departure times. I hope this helps you, and welcome to Cedar Point!! Have a great summer!

Your work schedule and hours will vary by department and location. I will be in the rides department, which gets the most hours along with the foods department. I am bringing $300 to be on the safe side. I have heard rumors about Cedar Point improving the wifi in the on point housing but won't know for sure until I get there. Generally, at least with rides, you will work between 60-70 hours a week (max is 79 per week) with one day off. On your day off you will probably want to sleep, shop at the mall or walmart, do laundry, or relax at Soak City and enjoy the park. No need to be nervous. There are many other first years that are excited and in the same position. Branch out and get to know people as soon as you get to Cedar Point and I'm sure you will feel a lot better. It's Cedar Point!!! You will work a lot, but with all of your hard work comes a lot of fun and free admission to the park. It will take some getting use to but it's manageable. Hope this helps!

First year too! I process in May 4th.
I live about a half hour away and there's quite a bit to do around Sandusky. There's also PutInBay which is worth looking into!
Hit me up on Facebook and I'll tell you more about the area. Maybe we can kick it on our days off!
