Wow. What a great weekend at Lighthouse Point!
Arrived a little after 2pm Friday afternoon. We got checked into our cabin and got settled, then had a bite to eat. Nothing like home made pork BBQ's!
5:20pm...time to head to the park! Took the shuttle to the marine gate, and walked over to MF. Walked up to the train (with no wait whatsoever), climbed in and sat down. Repeated this a couple of times before heading over to maXir, which was awesome in seats 1-4! What a ride!
Spent the rest of the night riding and re-riding anything we wanted to. Everything was a walk-on! (MF had a short wait, but we had already hit that a few times).
Saturday was busier, but not that bad, since we headed back to the cabin for a break in the pool for a couple of hours. Headed back into the park later in the afternoon for a photo shoot. Dinner? Grilled New York strip steaks, baked potatos (baked on the grill) and broccoli with cheese. Very tasty! The evening was spent taking pictures of the park at night (outside the park, as it closed at 8). Hurried back to watch Ohio State loose--something everyone seemed to be doing in the campground.
Sunday morning brought aches and pains to our 40+ year old bodies. No riding for the adults Sunday, but took the kids over for some final rides of the trip. They were actually pretty done in, too. Left around noon for the 5 hours drive back to Michigan.
Highlights:
PERFECT weather Friday and Saturday, with temps in the 70's. It was getting hot on Sunday, when we left.
Light crowds. Friday it looked like there were more park employees in the park than guests. Pure bliss!
Monster Rock show at the Red Garter. I've seen this show the last few years and this year was awesome! Not to be missed!
The amount of money I spent on park food was a couple of bucks for a Starbuck's coffee at Donut Time. That's the TOTAL FOR 3 DAYS! We ate better (for a fraction of the cost) cooking at the cabin.
Lowlights:
I saw no evidence of park expansion. I did NOT go out of my way to look around the places mentioned here, but was in the area of WWL and DD for rides, in case they are being sold or removed. I saw nothing.
Paddlewheel Excursions. This attraction has been as neglected as the railroad or DT. Where there hell are the paddlewheels, anyway?
My body. I usually spend a few 3 day trips a year in the park. And pay for it for a couple of days afterwords. My fault, partially, but one cannot stop the aging process.
Other than those, I did not notice many of the things complained about here about park service. It was excellent! Of course, it wasn't very busy, either...
