9/26-9/27: My wife breaks the 200' barrier!

In honor of our six year anniversary, we considered two trips: Chicago for Lion King, or Cedar Point for Halloweekends. Luckily for me, Lion King was sold out when we started planning, with tickets from brokers in the $250/per range. So Cedar Point it was! Usually, we have the kids in tow, so this trip was specifically to ride/do/see stuff for which the youngsters are ineligible.

Friday was Get Spooked night, while Saturday was Magnum day. Last year, on Maureen's first ever visit to the Point, she declared that she would "never" ride Magnum (among others). As this season wore on, we took several trips with the kids. She went from "maybe someday" to "I bet I could", but since we always had the munchkins and she didn't want to ride alone, she never got to it. Up until last weekend, she'd been on nothing more exciting than Mean Streak.

Saturday was the day. We got to Magnum early on, with only a two-train station wait for a mid-train seat. She was extremely nervous heading up the lift, and had her eyes tightly closed on the way down the first hill. She was pretty surprised by the tilt on the turnaround. After the turnaround, she had her hands half-way up, and was giggling. On the brake run, she was laughing uncontrollably, and did not stop laughing until well after we bought the picture commemorating the ride. She got right back on for a re-ride in the ejector seat, and rode twice more before we left for home! In fact, she had so much fun that on our way out of the park, she looked at Millennium and said "maybe someday".

Seeing as it was our anniversary, we ate at Bay Harbor. When making reservations, check the almanac for sunset; we had reservations for 7:00, with a sunset of ~7:20 or so, and this worked out very well. Bay Harbor is good, but isn't what I'd classify as a top-notch restaurant compared to such places in Ann Arbor. I'd describe it as an Old School Midwestern Steak/Seafood place: lots of butter and cheese, with a heavy hand on the seasonings. The prices (especially the wine list) were surprisingly reasonable, though, so on balance I'd go back. The stuffed mushrooms are tasty, and the garlic butter is great! Skip the rice pilaf---it tasted like Uncle Ben's cooked in a very peppery chicken stock. We were concerned that we'd be a bit overdressed, but my slacks and french blue dress shirt were about average.

Other highlights: a fast Mean Streak, boysenberry syrup in the Breakwater buffet breakfast, Toxic Tunnel beer, and buying next year's season passes.

It's not war, famine, or pestilence; it's only downtime.

Aw, that's so awesome that you guys had such a great time there for your anniversary.

Bay Harbor? Wine? Sunset? Magnum rides? Sounds like perfection to me :)

I think wooden roller coasters give people the wrong idea. The only thing my mom went on was Blue Streak and now she thinks MF or TTD would shake her to death
