9/11/09 Beautiful Night

I went to the Point last night with my new girlfriend, Leanne. She suprised me with tickets. We got to the park at about 6:05. Parked in the second row of the parking lot right in front of the gates. This was a sign of things to come. I didn't go on many coasters but I did hit the big ones.

First up was Raptor. We literally walked up the steps and right into waiting seats. Kind of like valet service. Great ride as usual.

Next up was Millie, same process no line what so ever. Another great ride.

We walked back through Frontier Trail to check out the site Shoot the Rapids. It was deserted with nothing open. I was a little miffed that they didn't continue Starlight Experience through this weekend.

When we got to the back we hit up Mavrick with only a 10 minute wait. This was my first ride and was completely impressed. Definately a worth while addition to the park.

We moved on to Magnum next because both Mean Streak and Gemini were not running. With another short 10 minute wait we were off and running.

Leanne wouldn't ride TTD with me so I soloed. Walked right up on to the platform due to no line and hopped right on. The launch still makes my heart race every time.

This all took about 1 hour to accomplish. Being older now I don't feel the need to marathon on the rides like I used to. So we decided to just walk around and enjoy the park on a beautiful fall like evening. We actually walked the park from front gate to Maverick and back to the front gate four times. Leanne hadn't been to the park in over 20 years so I was a real shock to her how much it had changed. She said she enjoyed the walks because I would fill her in on the history and changes that the park had gone through over the years.

All in all it was a great evening and a great night for riding. There is nothing quite like the cool air rushing in your face on a night ride. I will definately go again next year on Bonus Weekend.

Sounded like a nice night. The least I have ever waited for maverick was 30 minutes. :)

Pepsi Refresh is saving one coaster at a time: http://pep.si/bTTsfc

I was there on Friday the 11th. One of the best trips to the point I have had in a long time. Longest waits were three trains for MF, and two trains for Maverick. Everything else was walk-on. I rode DT and was on a car all by myself. I had an interesting walk through the frontier trail. They turned off all the starlight stuff but forgot to turn the main midway lights on, so I got a pitch black walk through the trail. Lights came back on by the time I got through the trail but that was nice while it lasted.

Ridin' till I'm Dyin'

My family went Friday too. It was like having the park to ourselves. They pretty much had the Halloweekends Friday ride selection open. I must admit I was expecting all of the rides to be open. It never occurred to me that they wouldn't be or to check the website. It didn't matter we were going anyway. It was great.

We started by renewing our Platinum Passes which was done so quickly we didn't realize it had been done. We just handed the woman our current passes and she scanned them or something and presto, done. There was maybe a 2 minute wait to get to the counter just before 6pm.

As the others said the lines for rides were minimal. DT, walk on Maxair, walk on only about 10 riders on our ride, Chaos, my son was the only rider. WT walk on, only about 1/3 of the seats filled. Magnum walk on, TTD 5-10 minute wait. Maverick less than 5 minutes. Sky Hawk, walk on. All the flats that were open were walk on. Many gave rerides without making you leave the ride. Cadillac Cars had empty cars waiting for riders. Planet Snoopy was by far the most crowded area in the park as it was the only kiddie area open.

We had planned to take advantage of the pass holders discount at Midway Market, but it was closed, as were many of the other food outlets. Johnny Rockets was open and empty, so we went in there. I do not really care for this Johnny Rockets. It starts with the extremely high prices. Something always bothers me there. In fact previous time we went there we'd said it would be our last, due to some messed up food , a BS excuse for it and no real attempt to fix things. Anyway we went in and the hostess put us in a booth facing the setting sun. I asked to go to one of the many booths without sun, but she said those sections were closed. So, now I'm unhappy, the place is empty and I'm supposed to stare into the sun. There was an open table right next to us in the back section which had other diners, so we moved there out of the sun. The food was alright and only $62 for 4 people before the tip. Such a bargain. But, I knew it would be diner food at Ritz prices from the beginning.

Anyway except for that minor irratation we had a great evening. It was a great to get on those rides multiple times without waiting. The scavenger hunt was fun as always, though it seemed much easier this time. With a small number of entries we have a better chance of winning.
