Today was the single most interesting day I've ever had at CP. We went in looking for a bunch of coaster rides, instead what we got was a lot of crazy events...
Me, Alex Parks, and Alex's brother got to the park at 9:20, parked in SC lot and looked to see if VertiGo was open yet, but it wasn't. So we waited until 10:00 (since when do they open at 10 and not 9:30?) at the Resort Entrance, ran to Magnum, and got first train, ejector seat. GREAT ride - no trims! We enjoyed one more ride w/o trims, then they were turned back on. We did Magnum 5 times, then decided to get our first VertiGo flight.
We get our hand stamped for the 1st time of the day, we get the tickets, tell them we want Cosmic Flip, strap in, and we fly (seems as though no one rides VertiGo until late in the day...). Awesome ride, but it would get better later...
We wanted to do MF next, but first we hit PT Turbo Drop, and saw that MF's line was in excess of an hour and a half, so we hit Magnum once more, then headed to the back. On our way, we figured we mine as well ride Woodstock Express, since we had never done so. Great for a kiddie coaster, especially in the back. Decided to bypass Gemini because only red side was running (this is what it was like all day ).
After getting lunch, we did Mine Ride, then Mean Streak. I really felt bad for one lady on MS - the ops tried as hard as they could to fasten her seatbelt (they tried for like 5 minutes), but it wasn't gonna happen, so she couldn't ride. Anyways, I've been trying to like MS lately, but I just can't find anything good in it. I gotta try doing it in the rain...
We did the Force next - the sign said 1 1/2 hours - it took us 40 minutes to get in the station (go figure). So we got in line for front, and about 10 minutes later, it turns into "Maintenance Force". They send an empty blue train, and decide that a safety check is needed at a certain part on the lift. So for the first time, surprisingly, I see the maintenance car in use. It was only down for about 15 minutes, and we got a great front row ride. Now it starts to get interesting...
As we head to the front of the park, the sky gets REALLY dark. Monstrous rain clouds begin to dwarf the Point, and we're wondering if we can get a Raptor ride in. When we get to the area around Pagoda Gift Shop, these 2 kids run across the grass in the middle of the midway, from the right to the left, and the first one jumps over the bushes, lands on a bench, and waits for his friend... his friend, on the other hand, jumps the bush and lands on the bench, but the bench slides out from under him, he falls backwards, and one of his shoes flies off, and lands right in Alex's brother's hands. Luckily the kid wasn't hurt, but it was quite funny watching the shoe fly off and then be caught. Continuing towards the front, we decide to stop at the Arcade for me to play some Dance Dance Revolution. Halfway through my first game, I turn around, and it is POURING rain. So I figured we made the right move coming inside. Well as people started to take shelter in the arcade, I started to build up a crowd of people watching me play DDR. Alex counted 45 people at one time. We also noticed Red Garter Rob in the arcade, but I was too busy impressing people wit' my skills (haha). During my second game, the power in the whole arcade went out for about 5 seconds. Pretty funny, but it made me mad that I had to restart (hehe). Well after playing DDR a few more times, we noticed that the rain had ceased and Blue Streak was running and decided to head over to it.
This whole time I have been wearing my faded MF hat, and you have to realize that it was a little breezy and we sat in BS front row. Well, on the first hill after the turnaround, the wind got hold of my hat, and it flew off. Alex almost caught it, but it dropped down to the right of the track. The ride op told me to come back later to see if they found it, but instead, the three of us went into the Pavilion next to Raptor and looked along the BS fence to try and find the hat. Couldn't find it. So we head back to BS and ride it again to try and look for it. We sit in the back row (btw I had a GREAT ride - rain + back = speed and airtime), and both of us see the hat, but we have to exit the park and go to the Public Picnic Pavilion. So we get our hand stamped for the 2nd time, go up to the fence, search around and find the hat. We didn't want to climb over the fence, and we couldn't reach through, so we broke off a piece of a vine, and after many tries Alex stuck it through the fence and hooked the hat, and we brought it up and over. We had successfully recovered it!
It was getting near 4, and we had set up at meeting at Magnum, so we skipped Raptor and went back there. We saw Rob w/ 2 others standing there, but after we went to grab a drink, they were gone. Oh well - we exited the park, got our stamps for the 3rd time, and went back to VertiGo. This time we did the new 4th option, Big Bang Plus. An awesome sensation of being flown from the seat at the top, plus a lot of negative g's. We stayed in the harnesses, got more tickets, and did it again - this time Big Bang. I can't remember the name of the op who strapped us in, but I have to commend him because he made the restraints VERY loose, making it a lot cooler. We loved it, and decided we would do Big Bang again on our way out. But first, we went back to MF...
50 minute wait this time, we got 5-1. I was really proud because for the first time, I nicked the support on the first turn with my finger (and I'm short, not tall like Rob). Cool ride, and we decided to head back to VertiGo (got our hand stamped for the 4th time while exiting - heh heh). We did Big Bang again... we actually had to wait for it this time, unlike before (we were one of only two groups who had ridden it before 5 or so). I gotta give another thanks to the op with the yellow glasses, he strapped us in loosely and we had another unbelievable ride. Before we left, I had to pick up a VertiGo shirt - it is now one of if not my favorite ride in the park.
That's it... sorry for the length of this TR, but some of the stuff (the kid slipping on the bench, us searching for my hat, the power outage, etc.) was just hilarious. Another great day at the one and only CP!
