8/19/2005-Best Day Ever

My dad and I decided to go down to the Point as an early birthday present for me. I was really looking forward to it because my dad hadn't been there since Mean Streak was brand new. We made unbelievable time on the way down, and made it from north of Detroit to Sandusky in 2 hours flat. We started out the day on MF (or the Han Solo ship ride, as my dad insisted on calling it), and got on with about a 1/2 hour wait. Then we walked on to Mantis, Iron Dragon, and Wildcat all within the hour. Next, we headed around to the other side of the park where we rode Corkscrew.
Since TTD had an hour and 15 minute wait, we decided to leave it for later. We rode a couple of the flat rides in that area, and then took a ride on each side of Power Tower (or, the Great Tower of Power, according to my dad). Next we rode Magnum twice, once in the front row, and once in the very back. My dad enjoyed that because it was one of the few rides that he remembered. After that, we stopped at the Octopus ride. Then we rode Gemini twice. Our first ride was a tie, and we lost the second race by about three train lengths. Next we took a ride on WWL to cool off and relax. Then we had the smoothest, most enjoyable ride on Mean streak that I've ever had. We liked it so much that we rode it again. After that, we grabbed some lunch, and watched Twistin' to the 60s. I enjoyed it a lot, especially since it was the first time I'd ever watched a show at CP.
After the show, we rode CCMR and then headed back toward the front to check on the wait for TTD, but discovered that it was down mechanical. Instead, we rode WT (or, the Wicker Wacker ride, according to my dad) and Maxair. While hanging upside down on Maxair, I noticed a train going over the top hat, so when we got off, we ran over and got in line. It took us about an hour to get on, including a 15 minute repair after a rollback. After Dragster we headed over and rode Blue Streak, and then Calypso. Next, we walked right onto Demon Drop. I still say that's a better drop ride than PT. We then caught the 7:30 showing of Living in America. It was a good show, but I liked Twistin' to the 60s better because it had more of a story to it. After the show, we hopped on Raptor with about a 20 minute wait. Then we headed over and rode DT, and Troika. After that, we hopped on Maxair again. My dad got a bug in his eye, but I love that ride more and more each time I ride it. It's especially impressive at night. We got in line for MF for our last ride of the night around 9:30, and watched the reverse of the laser show from the queue. After about an hour wait, we got on in the backseat. Needless to say, it was an excellent book end ride. We grabbed dinner at Friendly's on the way out of Sandusky, and made it back home by 2 am.
All in all, the weather was beautiful, the crowds were managable, and we got everything done that we wanted to. TTD and MF were both hits with my dad, and it was, by far, the best day at the Point ever. I loved hanging out with just my dad, and listening to his stories about the trips he used to make with his high school buddies and my grandpa. Plus, we both like to travel light and fast through the park and not waste any time, so we get along just fine without siblings or friends to slow us down.

I guess my dad isn't the only one who can't get the name for "Tower of Power" right.

I take it he was impressed by how much the park had improved in the last 14 years?

Sounds like you and your dad had a lot of fun. I wish my dad and I could go on a trip like that. Listening to you talk about how your dad would tell you stories of his past trips to the Point reminds me so much of mine; mine talking about his trips down with his friend in HS, trying to pick up the ladies. Glad you had a good time and too bad you didn't get to ride TTD(nevermind, I'm stupid). "It's a hoot!" -Monty Jasper.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

It sounds like she did get to ride Dragster.

Where'd you learn to read... a Michigan public school? ;)

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking.

Yeah, he couldn't believe how much the park had changed since he had been there. Ironically, with all of the added rides, his favorite park improvement was the fact that the majority of the park is now light-colored concrete instead of blacktop.

That is totally my dad. He said that he would always ride alone so he could match up with cute girls who were riding single too.

Mmm. Walking on top of 150 degree blacktop in 100 degree heat all day...
