7.11.06 - Riding in the Rain

We arrived at Cedar Point on Tuesday July 12, 2006 at around 11:30. The park seemed crowded but it wasn't extremely packed. We started off our day by riding Wicked Twister which only had about a 15 minute wait. The ride was smooth and the Ride Ops moved quickly checking the seatbelts. One thing I did notice was that there was no music playing in the station. Did they stop playing the station music for Wicked Twister?

Next, we adventured down to the ever-so-tall Top Thrill Dragster which looked like it was running well. We wanted to ride it in the morning because we saw the weather predictions and thought it would rain later-and it did! While we were in line for it, there were no breakdowns which were good. We waited about an hour and 15 minutes and then got onto the station. They had "Ready to Go" playing and they were running 5 trains. Then we buckled our seatbelts and were off on the fastest/tallest RED roller coaster in the world.

After we were finished we journeyed down to Magnum XL: 200 which had about a 15 minute wait. We went on and then walked over to the Gemini which was practically a walk on. The blue train won! At 3:00 when we got off of the Gemini, it started to rain for about 15 minutes. We decided to get something to eat at the Happy Friar because no trip to Cedar Point is complete with out their famous French fries. We all got fries and corn dogs. The service for the corn dogs was so slow. It took them about 15 minutes just to make 2 corn dogs. What’s up with that?

Next, we journeyed back to FrontierTown and went on SkyHawk. It had about a 30 minute wait but it was still a fun ride - even though it needs to be longer. After, we walked down the Frontier Trail when it started to rain. We took a little stop in the Berry Shop to dry off and then got ready to go back out in the rain. We got off the trail and saw Millennium Force, Mantis, and most of the rides down due to weather conditions so we decided to go on Dogems just for fun.

When we were off of Dogems, the rides were testing and were ready to open. We went over to the big blue monster, Millennium Force, and only waited 30 minutes until we got up to the station. We buckled up and were ready to ride the #1 Roller coaster in the world. We went up the hill faster than usual (I thought) but that may be due to the new motor they put in after its 1 week of downtime. Overall the ride was thrilling and didn't have a dull second.

It was now around 6:00 and we decided to "stand up and scream" on Mantis. Mantis had only about a 15 minute wait and was a very bumpy ride. It gave everyone headaches so we decided to take a break and get something to eat. We stopped at the Pizza Parlor on the Main Midway and had some dinner.

When our food was settled and we were ready to ride, we walked over to maXair which I think is a very fun ride. We waited for 15 minutes and then got on it when it started to rain. The rain hurt a little but it was still a great ride. Next we walked over to Power Tower and rode the green Turbo Drop side. There was no line and it also turned out to be a fun thrilling ride - even though it was cold at the top of the tower.

It was now 9:00 and we only had an hour left until close so we journeyed back to Frontiertown and rode SkyHawk which had no line. There weren't many people back there and there usually isn't at that time of night.

We got off at about 9:30 and ran down the Frontier Trail and got in line for Millennium Force at about 9:45. Meanwhile, it had been raining nonstop for almost the whole evening. Everyone was soaked but there were still some diehard Millennium Force fans in line. The Millennium Force live DJ was there playing all the great hits like Eye of the Tiger and Cotton Eyed Joe and he really got the crowd going. Everyone was dancing, clapping and having a great time. There were about 180 high schoolers/college kids from a youth group there and they were leading the claps and dances and making tunnels for some people in line to run through. It was great and everyone was going crazy and having a great time at America's Roller Coast. Does it usually get that crazy every night when the DJ is there? Anyway, we got onto the platform after about a 30 minute wait and had a fun and a little bit painful ride due to rain. Lastly, we watched a little of Hot Summer Lights and saw a human chain made by the high schoolers/college kids run from Millennium Force to the front gate. It was truly an interesting sight. We followed and then left America's #1 Amusement Park, Cedar Point.

Trip Tips:
• Check the weather forecast the day before to see if it is going to rain. If it is, get in line for TTD when the weather is clear. TTD closed at 3:00 and did not open for the rest of the night due to weather conditions.
• Check Today in the Park on CP's website to see the list of rides in operation.
• Don't go on maXair right after you eat.
• Enjoy your day at Cedar Point.

AWESOME! That sounded so cool.

New Season of 'The Office'. TONIGHT!!!

See, rain isn't always bad...it definitely shortens the lines after the rain leaves... :)
