6.17.2003 Gemini's 25th Annv.

Ever since the park went wild with Magnum's 10 year anniversary everyone expects the park to do something special every time a ride hits a certain milestone. BTW happy anniversary to Snake River Falls who turns 10 this year!

Anyway with a rough winter and offseason in '77 and '78 Gemini was a little late opening. Then again how would I know I wasn't born until 9 months later! Anyway I have always loved the Gemini and since the Gem 100 I was hoping that the park would do something for the ride.

Once the season started we all focused on Dragster and Gemini was litterally lost in its shadow. As always the park came through with its mini celebration today.

I got to the park around 8:30 and made my way to the Magnum gate and saw a few Gemini Silver Annv signs. When the gates opened I walked over to Gemini and found 4 banners infront of the entrance (2 blue, 2 red) each listing different gemini facts. There was also the gemini 25th anniversary logo on the station in two spots!

After taking some pictures there weren't many people around and then our buddy Red Garter Rob shows up and after standing around talking for about 15 i saw more and more full timers walking up the exit to the platform.

I made my way up the exit platform and when everyone was up there, Dick gave a few minute speech and then there was a ribbon cutting and everyone got in the two trains.

After everyone rode we took a few group photos at the exit and then everyone started to sign the banners. After a few more pictures I gave my camera to some random guy in a bright orange shirt and Rob and I hopped in for a quick ride! I got off and I signed the last blue banner in the upper corne. "magnum dan gemini 100"

All in all it was a great cerimony and just something special, I want to thank the park and eveyone for letting me hang out on the platform for the cerimony!

Maybe we can get some shirts and pins with the 25th anniversary logo on it!

I would have loved to have attended, especially since Gemini is part of some very fond memories. A trip my husband (then boyfriend) and I made the summer Gemini opened was one of our most romantic, and we spent most of our two days at the park riding Gemini.

A 25th anniversary pin would be so cool. I know *I* would purchase one!

It was alot of fun Dan and glad that the Gemini 100 was represented...

And.. for the record.. and as a shout out to my engine house roommates.. Something alot of people are SERIOUSLY overlooking that fact that this year is the CP@LE Railroads 40th season. Capacity is a the name of the game at CP and the CP@LE has been #2 since Gemini.. but that will all change soon I sense.. ;)

Skykicker (Matt) and I showed up at around 7pm to find no banners to sign, but we rode a few times anyway. I heard they were full and they took them down about 4pm. Matt and I really wanted to sign them darnit. So I guess you could say we represented the Gemini 100 fashionably late. Speaking of that Jo's representing us today a whole day late.

I'm sure they were filled by 7. It also rained a couple of times throughout the day. I hope my autograph is still on it.

I showed up around 1:30 pm and signed one of the banners and they were quite full by then and when I showed up around 4:00 pm they let a few more people sign them and then took them down around 4:30 pm. It was a nice gesture by the park to do something for such a great ride!

Launch that sucker...Yeah!

Hey Dan, my dad and I saw you at the Magnum gates. We saw you taking pictures. We recognized you from the roller coaster shows on T.V.

Dan, great report and great pics too. Wish that I could made it but I still showed up later in the day for a ride on the original signature ride. I was a little bummed that I didn't get to sign the banners, but oh well I'll wait for the 50 year celebration. I agree too shirts and pins would be a great idea.:)

I showed up about 4:15 during the rain and signed the banners.. I had to really look hard to find a spot to sign my name! My girlfriend and I ended up signing one of the blue banners and they were taken down not more than 5-10 minutes later.

I really wish I would have been able to be around in 1978 when the Gemini opened. My dad went and rode it in '78 and told me he ended up having to wait more than the length of the ride a couple times!!

As of Wednesday evening, the banners weren't up in the museum yet. I would assume they will put them up sometime, though.
