6-17-07 Fathers day

Hi Guys Here is My trip report For 6/17/07. Sorry so late I worked crazy hours all week. As we all know it was unofficial gay day at CP just as every fathers day and it was probably one of the most fun trips I have ever had. My partner and I went with our best friends (also a couple). We drove from Cleveland and it started to drizzle about 20 minutes from CP but I was not worried. We got to the park and paid our $10.00 parking fee which I think is absurd. ( I say $8.00 is fair) but what are you going to do? I normally have a season pass but not this year due to my new job working 13hrs every day and 5 on Saturdays gives me no time. Maybe next year. But anywho onto the park! We arrived at about 10:15am and just walked around a bit we wanted to start off slow so we hit up the Cadillac cars and Cedar Downs then went on Iron Dragon which was a walk on. I still love that ride especially in the back and it is still one of the smoothest coaster at the park in my opinion. My partner has never been on Dragster and probably never will nut on Iron Dragon I saw the line for Dragster was very short I would say 20 mins or so. So my friends and I got in line but my partner sat it out. Of course it breaks down and we wait about 10 mins but left the line we had all day anyway. We actually went on Super Himalaya which was a lot of fun. This trip was not all about coasters which made the trip very fun. We then went on Magnum and waited about 30 mins due to the 2 train op. We switched it up and my partner rode whit my friend while I rode with his partner. GREAT RIDE sat in back row and had tons of airtime especially on the return trip after the pretzel turn. It was probably one of the best Magnum rides ever.

We then decided to have a looksy at Maverick but did not ride it just yet. The wait said 1 ½ hrs so we decided to ride later. We got on Mine Ride which was fun as usual and only a 5 minute wait. I wanted to go on Skyhawk very badly but nobody wanted I had to talk my best friend into going on it and the partners sat out. We were in in 10 minutes I LOVE THIS RIDE! I still am disappointed that they did not add at least 1 or 2 more full height swing cycles to it. I mean the wait is never that long, it is a people eater and the ride is over way too short. But anyway we then walked through the Frontier trail and just went through some shops hit up the petting farm which was cool. We then decided the hit up the wicked twister midway. We went to Wicked Twister which I sat out. (for some reason this seems like a bumpy ride that gives me a headache) my friend and I sat it out while the partners rode together. But it breaks down while they were the next to ride but oh well it was only about 15 minutes we lost anyway.

Next we wanted to ride Disaster Transport which is still one of my favorite rides at CP which I cannot explain when someone asks me my. I was looking forward to a walk on as usual but the wait was 30 minutes by the time we got on board. (is it just me or does this ride need some music in the queue lines?) Anyway I was expecting a normal ride with all the lights and theming off but I was thrilled to find that most everything was on and working! The strobe light on the first turn was on which I have not noticed in years was working, The large room with the big helix was on and working and the rest of the ride had various lights on and the fake glowing rocks in the tunnel were working as well. I had an AWESOME ride that day. I was just so excited to see so much stuff working on it. We next hit up Millennium Force which only had a 30 minute wait. GREAT RIDE once again but I was still waiting for Maverick. It was near 4pm and we walked over Famous Daves so dinner. We always do this why pay $12.00 for a hamburger on stale bread and French fries and a drink only to eat it on a bench with people walking by with screaming kids? It is almost the same price a little more, but you get to sit down and relax. We all had a few drinks there but I only had 2 because I am a lightweight. Anyway I still got buzzed and we then left after a great meal. We saw some of our friends throughout the park and said hi but we next hit up Wildcat which is my partners favorite ride. Great ride as usual then we decided it was time for Maverick but first we hit up the Saloon. So many people were there but we got 2 beers for almost $13.00! But we still had fun (now one thing I have to mention is the bartenders) I know that the beer at CP is waaaay overpriced but nobody was tipping! I know that you should always tip at least $1.00 per drink which I always do. But it is not the bartenders fault that the prices are what they are. But after paying $6.00 for a beer what is another $1.00?? Well anyway I finished half my beer and was starting to feel a good buzz but let my friend drink the rest. (It was close to 6pm and I had to drive home at 10:30pm or so) Well anyway after waiting 45 minutes for Maverick we were on. The line was very fast moving. One thing I can say about Maverick is WOW! I have 2 words to describe it, VIOLENT AIRTIME! It was great and it is now my favorite ride at CP. My partner and I sat in the back and it was the best drop on any coaster I have been on to this date. The entire ride I don’t think my but touched the seat other than the tunnel launch. Even with the sharp transitions from left to right I got airtime. The second half was awesome and placed perfectly in the ride and I also got airtime on the 2 loops. I don’t know how they did it but CP has another world class coaster on their hands! The tunnel was ok I was not a big fan of the LED lights thought they took away from the western theming but it was cool anyway. The turn after the launch was cool and I did get sprayed with water a little which was a neat surprise. The second half of the ride was just wild the entire time I was flipping out of my seat to and it was just CRAZY! I loved it but I had my hands up the entire time which also led to some neck jabbing from the restraints. My partner hurt his neck a little but was fine but the thought that the restraints were a bad design as well.

We then walked around more and hit up Gemini I have never had a front seat ride on it but it was great! We then hit up Paddlewheel excursions that was cheesy as always buy still kind of fun. We then split up for our last ride of the night my partner wanted to ride Millennium Force again I wanted Maverick I settled on Millennium since I dragged him on some rides he did not want to ride that day. Our friends hit up Dragster we waited about 15 minutes for millennium they waited 12 minutes for Dragster which I though was crazy! Anywho we rode Millennium which I though was kind of weak after riding Maverick. (wow I never though I would say that!)

So in all it was a great day we stayed for the show but left during it was kind of cheesy. (actually it was very cheesy but we wanted to beat the traffic) over all it was a great day!

Now one more thing that happened on the way home that is not CP related but still made my day. Some jerk was tailgating me to within 2-3 feet of my bumper I was not in the fast lane and driving about 70 in a 65 which is not bad in my book. But the car next to me in the fasts lane was driving the same speed and would not speed up or slow down. (not my fault and I was not about to speed up to let that jerk behind me get past me and try to cut me off or do something stupid.) so anyway the other car slows down but the jerk was still on my tail and I did notice he was driving a nice shiny black luxury car. So I did my usual move (not brake check which is stupid) I turned on my washers and used about half of what I had in washer fluid! I mean it was flying off the windshield and all over his car that finally got him off my tail and he sped up real fats to get past. Not 5 minutes later guess where he was up the road……………EXACTLY! Pulled over by Ohio’s finest! And of course I honked as we drove by!

Overall great trip!

^Normally I hate seeing people get pulled over, but in this case it is hilarious. I had a similar thing happen to me coming home on Rt. 2 in May. Some girl in a Mustang tailed me for a bit, then flew past me only to get pulled over about a mile later.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

"Ohio's Finest..."

Mmhmm... yeahhhh, I hope you're not talking about those lazy excuses for cops who hide out right where the 65 mph zone becomes a 55 on Route 2 west and stop people who don't see the one sign letting you know the speed limit suddenly changed, even when the road is practically deserted. I hate when speed limits are used by cops against drivers like that. I was a victim of this last year, and I am bitter about it to this day.

Great TR!
Sounds like you, your partner and friends had a great time!
Why the parking, food and booze prices would shock anyone is beyond me. After all CP isn't KW or HW ;)

As for Ohio finest---

Last season some idiot was riding my bumper on 250W (I was going about 58 and that was plenty fast for us) He finally decided to pass us and less than a mile down the road...yup, there he was, in the process of holding his DL and State Farm ID outside his window handing it to a sheriff :)

We slowed way down to pass and couldn't help but laugh at the jerk.
My feeling is on those 2 country CP lanes (250, 98, 4) you want to speed, fine, but don't assume because you are dangerously close to my bumper that is going to make me speed.

In my 10+ years of going to CP I have never gotten a speeding ticket and would like to keep it that way, thank you.

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

Thanks Jo,

I did see you in line for Raptor last August but I did not want to bother you by saying hello since you did not know who I was. But if we see you this year I will say hi for sure!:)
