5/28/08 Amazing!! (long TR, but it's a good one!)

Before you start to read this and notice how long it is, I must tell you why you should read it. I have been OBSESSED with Cedar Point for about 7 years now. I have never been able to share this obsession with anyone close to me, and finally after Wednesday and I can proudly say that I have converted someone to my obsession. :) If you want to skip everything but the good part, go to the bold letters. But you kinda have to know the whole day to really appreciate how good this gets. :)

This was my first time back to CP in 3 years. WAY too long if you ask me. It was also the first trip that my sis and I would be taking together just us. We left her house (near down river) at 8am and filled up on gas. We were on 75 by 8:10am. We took Map Quest's directions and took 75 to 280 to the turnpike. Once we got into Sandusky there was a school bus following the CP signs so we just followed them. We got to CP around 10am.

Once I saw that beautiful skyline I literally starting flipping out. I mean, what would you guys do If you hadn't been there in 3 years and dreamed about the place at least once a week? We asked to park in the Soak City parking lot. First time for this. I thought it was really cool how we got to drive past all of the coasters. There was barely anyone in the parking lot and we got to park right by Gemini and Magnum.

My sis has only ever ridden Raptor, DT, and Iron Dragon. And since MF opened she vowed that she would never ever ride it. I knew I would have a hard time talking her into the bigger coasters, but it was worth a shot. So I talked her into Magnum.

On our way there we passed to time share people. They wern't too bad. The one complimented me on my braids. :) I wonder if CP talked to them about bothering people.

Anyway, Magnum was a walk on. The ride ops did a good job I though. She was fine with it, until we started up the lift hill and she started to freak. Saying things like "Why would anyone ever put themselves through this? This is horrible! I hate you Jesz!!". lol. Needless to say she did NOT like the ride. Me on the other hand loved it. :) There was a lot more air time than I rememered, but after the first 2 hills I was having the time of my life. I tryed to reassure my sister that Magnum probably was the "worst" coaster at the park. That although the others might be taller, they are much much smoother.

From there we went to Gemini. This was also a walk on. Ride ops here were alright. They seemed to be more talkative one on one to riders, rather than speiling about the ride. Although they did give the height and speed of the coaster, which my sis hated! So we start up the lift and once we went down that first hill she was loving it. We rode it again, and this time they were testing the other train I think. But it was stuck on the lift hill for about 5 minutes. And they didn't have the blue train running, so no racing. :(

After Gemini we headed towards Iron Dragon. One of my sister's favorites. We have had this joke since highschool that you could do your homework on it because it is so mellow. And that is why she likes it. :) We wanted the fronte seat, so there was a bit of a wait. The 2nd time we rode it the other train was stuck on the 2nd lift him. So when they went, we had to wait. That kinda sucked, but it was still a fun ride. The ride ops here were pretty rude if you ask me. They seemed bored too, and were just interacting with eachother and not really the riders.

Then we were thirsty so we bought one of those small refillable souvinier cups. The refills were only .99$. We thought it was a really good deal, because we only drank a little bit anways between coasters...and we ended up refilling it A LOT. I highly suggest it.

From there it was DT. The queue smelt really bad! It was that musty basement smell. But the ride was good.

Then we rode or drove the turnpike cars. I took pics of Raptor from them.

Next was Raptor. Very short line. 3x on this one and I loved every second of it. :) I thought it was cool how you could buy a video of your ride on it. The ride ops were really nice here. We became friends with one of them, Steven I think.

It was around 1pm after Raptor so my sis asked if we could eat at the place where they sang and danced. Me, assuming Johnny Rockets, took us there. Service was alright, but the food sucked. Not too bad on prices though. We got chicken fingers, and ended up splitting a pop and fries/onion rings. Including tip it came to $27.00. Half way through our meal my sis says, "Oh this is nice, but I meant the place that is a bar and they put on shows." Then I start to explain that I thought she meant here because they dance here too. As I'm explaining this the music gets loud and they start. Her face was priceless. lol. She really liked it though.

From there we went on DT again since it was close. The wait was pretty long, and if we wern't already in the middle of the queue we probably would have left. But we just stayed.

From there we took the Sky Ride back and did ID again. After that we decided to head to FT to do the Mine Ride. Neither of us had ever ridden it before. We took the train there. Mine Ride I personally thought was kinda dumb. I don't plan on riding it again. lol. I guess it is good for little kids though.

Then it was 5pm so we caught the Molly and Maverick show at Red Garter Saloon. That was what my sis was talking about. It was actually pretty cute.

After that I told her it was time to start riding the bigger coasters again. So we went out to the car and got hoodies on because it was getting really cold. (I loved having our car right there!) And then took 2 rides on Gemini.

I wanted to do Magnum again really bad, but my sis was still freaked out about it. So I said we didn't have to do it if she didn't want to. :( We got some dippin dots and rode ID again. Then she said that she would be willing to ride MF. So I said, "Great!!" and we headed for it. Hitting a few of the carnival rides on the way. Once we got close she started chickening out. But I said nope, it's too late now. :)

Here is where it gets good!

We met someone who worked at CP, Faye, and she wanted to share our lockers. So we all headed up to MF. There was only a short line. Faye and my sis were talking about how nervous they were and I was trying to reassure them how amazing it was going to be. There was a man walking up behind us with a girl about 10 years old. I looked at Faye and my sis and said, "If she can do it you guys can." lol. Then I heard the little girl's dad explaining how smooth the ride was. And that is what I had been telling my sis all day long. So I said, "See!" Which made someone infronte of us join into the convo. You can tell right away that someone is a CP fan when they will just jump into your conversation and start braggin about their love for the coasters. lol. I know, because I was doing it all day long. He ended up working at CP and said ihe visits Point Buzz everynow and then too. He was the only one I met from Point Buzz. Probably because we were near all of the smaller coasters all day long.

So me and him were trying to calm my sis and Faye down and before we knew it, it was our turn. We were heading up the lift and it was quicker than I had remembered and before we knew it we were going down! I loved every second of it, and it was just amazing. When the coaster was over she actually told me that she LOVED it!! I was so proud of her for even attempting to ride it. But this was soo cool!! She actually loved it. My sis, who practically had written in stone that she would never ride MF. She not only did it, but she loved it. I think this was one of the best moments of my life. :)

I should have had her start off with that from the beginning. But since Magnum was my first big coaster and I loved it, I guess I just thought she would too.

After our 2nd ride on MF she actually wanted to try Magnum again. So we went there and rode it twice. And I'm loving that coaster more everytime I ride it. My sis on the other hand still hates it. lol.

Then CP was closing :( so we went to MF and rode it 2 more times.

The whole day was so much fun, because anyday at CPis fun. But it was so much better because I have acutally finally had my sister feel the way I do about CP. We are already planning our next trip. Which will hopefully be in a few weeks. Now all she wants to do is talk about CP too.

On our way home we took the turnpike right to 75. That was much easier. And we just talked about our love for the best place on earth. :) She's like me not too. Before when I would get home from CP I would only want to talk about that, and it seemed to annoy everyone around me. But now she understood how I felt.

Everything on the road was reminding us of CP. From semi trucks, tothe express way reminding us of a coaster with all of the turns, to a white over pass reminding us of Magnum's station. lol.

I cannot wait to get back because next time we are going to ride everything!! Including Maverick and TTD. I'm sad that we didn't get to ride those. But I felt bad about scaring my sister on Magnum. So after that if she didn't want to ride a coaster, I didn't push it. But this next trip is going to be so much better. :)

Total coaster rides.

Magnum: 3x

Gemini: 4x

Millenium Force: 4x

Disastor Transport: 4x

Raptor: 3x

Iron Dragon: 6x

Mine Ride: 1 boring time

OMG, the 'welcome to Ohio' sign always gets me extremely pumped.

I noticed you wrote "the Molly and Maverick show at Red Garter Saloon." That show is in the Palace Theater. The Garter has Country Unleashed. Which place/show did you mean?

^ Like I said before, I am not too sure about the theater's at CP. But it miay have been the Palace Theater. I thought I saw signs that had said Red Garter Saloon though. It was the one where you go in and you can eat while you are watching the show. It looked like an old fashioned saloon, and it was in Frontier Town. I am pretty sure it was close to the CP museum too.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

If the theater was in Frontier Town, it was the Palace Theater.

I apologize because I said to look for PointBuzz buttons, but I forgot to wear mine that day. I was around Dragster, MF, and Maverick all day so probably to see anyway.

Sounds like a good trip. Next time you have to hit up Dragster and Maverick.

Sounds like you and your sister had a fantastic time! I love TR's with pictures!

An inverted coaster is like a ski lift gone haywire!!

^^ That's alright. I was looking for you though because someone posted a pic on here from opening day, so I knew what you looked like. But I don't think we saw you. Yeah, I can't wait to get back to ride Maverick and TTD. I wanted to all day, but I felt bad for my sis.

what does a pointbuzz button look like? how do you get one?

Very nice trip report, so many details. Wednesday night was a bit chilly, after we (me and my dad) rode Maverick our second time I got a Maverick jacket (it kept me warm). Thats good your sister rode MF, it's like when you get that first ride over, it's easyer to ride it a second time. You two should have fun on Maverick and TTD. :)

They aren't "official" PointBuzz buttons... That was not permitted...

They are buttons that Adam (TTD 120) made last season for opening day. They say Buzzer on them and have a place for our screen names... Pretty cool if you ask me :)

^ Oh, I want one of those! :) It would be much easier to just wear a pin, rather than writing Point Buzz on your hand...hoping someone sees it. lol.

^^ I rode TTD before and loved it! Maverick not yet...but I will. :)

Maybe we should all wear a t-shirt saying "If you are on PointBuzz, say hi".... and the meeting times and places work too.

Hope you get another trip in the season to ride Maverick, Jesz.

^ lol that's a good idea about the t-shirts. Me and my sis are going back in a few weeks. So I will beable to ride Maverick then. :)

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

Maybe we can persuade Adam (TTD120) to have the shirts by then.

That would be awesome! Like I said, a t-shirt would be MUCH easier than walking around with "Point Buzz" written on your hand. lol.

Jeff and Walt should seriously think about merchandising Point Buzz. T-shirts, buttons, and hoodies would be a cool ideal. I think a lot of people would buy them. I know I would.

Yet again I guess I could just go up to Gibralter and make my own for $10. :)

First, there were PointBuzz shirts previously available, but if I remember correctly, they never sold too well...

Second, I would be careful creating your own "PointBuzz" merchandise. It is POP World Media's copyright, and I know in the past Jeff hasn't been ok with people sticking the PointBuzz name on anything.

Just my 2 cents.

^ lol Can no one around here take a joke? Just to calm you down, I would not go and copy right Point Buzz. IF I were to make a shirt, first I would ask for Jeff AND Walt's permission. And second, it would just say something on the lines of the buttons that you guys made. Sheesh. :)

Thanks for letting me know though. :)
