3rd Magnum Train

Loopy said:The train prior to the first public train is empty which almost always guarantees a trimless first public ride.

That's good to know, I'll have to make it a point to head over to Magnum at 10am when I'm there for Joe Cool next time. I don't believe I've ever had a trimless ride on Magnum, and I can imagine that would be even more enjoyable. :)

Loopy, I think you'd be correct if we were talking about Mean Streak, but on Magnum, the trims are turned either on or off by the operator in the control booth.

When trains are less than two thirds full or it is windy/cold, they should be off. We'd often have a not full first public train so it'd go trimless. Same with trains later at night. Ops time the trains from the time they drop off the lift until the time they hit the safeties and call maintenance to adjust the pressure on the trims appropriately. They shoot to keep this time around 60 seconds.

The best Magnum rides are around 57 seconds I think although I've had some as fast as 54 (really out of control) and as slow as 70 (think Millennium Force style boring or non-existant airtime when it's this slow).

The fast rides are pretty intense, but they are not for the weak. The fastest rides can be quite painful. The best way to ride is a somewhat loose lapbar and a tight seatbelt.

One of the fastest rides I've ever gotton on it was a few years ago with a friend who was at CP for the first time. He talked about how good Nitro and Steel Force was better than Magnum possibly could be. I didn't tell him that we were about to get a trimless ride on it. After the safties he said something along the lines of "Holy ******* **** that is one hell of a ******* insane ride!"

When i went yesterday(monday) they still had only 2 trains but having an employee there to keep the station from getting to crowded was a welcome change.

Last year Jerry and I had a trimmed ride where we were the only ones in the train. I think Jr. Gemini actually moves faster than we were through the pretzel. Jerry said something to the ops when we got back and it was trimless the rest of the night (about 45 minutes). Nothing like night-time trimless rides.

Good thing that the trim pressure wan't any higher or you might have taken a Magnum rollback :)

It had us a little worried. If we had gotten a good gust off the lake while we were in the pretzel, we probably would not have made it back.

I had a first run of the day on Millennium Force that was real slow. I was in the first row. Going over the hill out to the island went about 3 or 4 MPH. On the hill back we really slowed down over the hill from the island. In fact, we slowed down to a point where for a few seconds, if felt as though we were not moving at all. I couldn't see any motion of the train relative from the track. It wouldn't have taken much of a gust to have given us a direction correction.

Rolling back on MF in certain places can't be fun at all. The banked curves are the low point for much of the low to ground areas. The banking on them are pretty steep, about 60 degrees where we would have likely stopped. I rode with the tool (my own, not the one kept in the electrical room) needed to release the lapbar just in case for each cold test ride.

The 3rd train was on the transfer track today. It wasn't there last night. I'm going to make the huge assumption that it was put on last night. I was looking at a train in the station, while a train was on the lift and then there was one on the transfers, so yes I can count to 3.

YAY!!!

(Not that you can count, but that the third train is back!)

I will be going to the POINT!! tomorrow, and I hope they will have all 3 trains working so the wait won't be as long.

when I went there on father's day, I got stopped going up the lift cuz someone took out a camera!! It was funny! But they were only running 2 trains for us. the line did move fast and the station was kept under control with the line host sitting there.

everyones counting on you being able to count successfully shorty! ;)

haha After someone saying all 3 were on awhile back, I made sure to double...and triple check. On a side note, it rained off and on for most of the morning and afternoon. What a pain, it seemed like it took forever to get the rides up and running and barely anything ran in even a sprinkle. I hope this changes back to how it was after they finish whatever investigating they may be doing or may have done.

I doubt it only seemed like it took forever. From everything I've been hearing (more things than ever closing in rain and cycling a ridiculous number of times after the rain stops), it probably DID take close to forever. I used to love going to CP when there was some rain in the forecast because the crowds would be lighter and many rides ran in the rain and those that didn't opened up quite promptly when it stopped or slowed.

But I will think long and hard before making a trip on a a day that is probably going to be raining.

-Matt

Ok. It did take forever. Anyone who goes frequently knows the general rule of thumb for Dragster to open after rain is all the trains must clear the tower. The guy even came over the pa and told everyone the no loose article spiel and that the ride would open as soon as the 5 cleared the hill. 18 trains later, the line opened.

Only 18? You're lucky! Someone said it was 25 (and over an hour and a half since the empty trains take so long to clear the block at the end) on another occasion.

And that is on a ride with magnetic brakes - unaffected by rain. What's the worst that could happen? A train gets stuck over a slippery drive tire? Give it a push! A train slips a few inches past a slippery drive tire while traveling at the blazing speed of 1mph? Hardly safety concerns.

Gotta love it when people think things through before enacting dumb policies.

Band-aid anyone?

-Matt

Band-aid? Don't you mean Duct tape? ;)

Jugga - that brings back memories! :) There's nothing like crawling over all the bunny hills asking yourself "are we gonna make it?"

I asked the ride op yesterday and he said today was the day.

A reliable source who is currently visiting the park (who can also count to 3!) has informed me that Magnum is 3 train op today.

Yay!
